The Italic Duchy of Western Long Island, better known as Western Long Island, is a micronation located in the Nassau County villages of Franklin Square, Elmont, Garden City South, North Valley Stream, West Hempstead, and Malverne. Its monarch is Duke Nicholas I, who formed the Duchy in early April 2022.

Etymology

The name comes from the fact the located on western Long Island and is majority Italian.

History

Founding

The Italic Duchy of Western Long Island was founded on 1 April 2022 when the Duke was sick. The original claimed land was Franklin Square, Elmont, North Valley Stream, Malverne, West Hempstead, and Garden City South.

Early Foreign Relations

The duchy joined the Assembly of Long Island Micronations a few days after the duchy was founded where it opened relations with Malus and Ausveria. It started a joint rocket program with Malus and formed the Holy Catholic League of Long Island with Ausveria which was disbanded before the end of the Veterans Park War.

Veterans Park War

The Italic Duchy of Western Long Island declared it neutrality in the Veterans Park War and attempted to negotiate a peace treaty to end the war and ended up receiving land that war transferred from Malus to the Western Long Island then to Greater Islip.

Post War Era

After the Treaty of Veterans Park Cheskgariya-Litvania, Greater Islip, Malus, and Western Long Island established the Long Island Micronational Congress which was an alternative organization to the Organization of Long Island Micronations however the organization was inactivate. On 22 September 2023, it declared it was relinquishing claims to its overseas territories in an act of decolonization.

Government

Duke

The title of Duke is held by Nicholas I. It is a lifelong position and has majority control of the government, including appointing government staff, and is given control of the army.

Parliament

The Parliament is divided into 2 houses; the upper house is the House of Nobles which has 8 members currently. The lower house is the House of Peoples Representatives which has 12 members. Members of the House of Nobles are appointed by the Duke, and the members of the House of Peoples Representatives are elected to represent their local areas.

Culture

The culture of Western Long Island is almost identical to the culture of Nassau County, but due to slightly more of an Italian majority it is more Italian-American than the rest of Long Island

Food

The national dishes of Western Long Island are Long Island Clam Chowder, Baked Clams, and Clams Oreganata. Popular foods include pizza, pasta, and other Italian food. Latino and Jewish food are also common.

Sports

The biggest sport in Western Long Island is Baseball, Soccer, and Hockey. The New York Islanders are based within the Duchy in Elmont. Elmont also holds Belmont Park, home of the Belmont Stakes. The Duchy is encouraging for citizens to play soccer.
