Imvrassian Despotate

A Despotate was a territorial and administrative unit of Imvrassia.
There was at least one residence, the capital of the administrative unit and other administrative subdivisions.
The ruler of a Despotate had the rank of Despotes or Sebastokrator as a member of the Imperial House and the official form was His/Her Royal Highness (name), Despotes / Despotissa of (name of the territory) or His/Her Royal Highness Sebastokrator / Sebastokrateira (name), Despotes / Despotissa of (name of the territory).
A Despotate were intended for the creation of an appanage for a cadet branch of the Imperial House and its purpose had to maintain the participation of younger members of the Ηouse in the administration of areas under their jurisdiction.
A Despotate could be divided into Themes or Archonties and its Governor could appoint to each Theme a Governor or to an Archontia an Archon. The Despotes / Despotissa had an assistant and deputy official, the Topoteretes who had the title of Protosebastos / Protosebaste or Magistros / Pansebaste or even the rank of Nobelissimos / Zoste Patrikia if he or she was member of the Imperial House.
