The Huckstable Empire is a micronation, situated in the United States of America, in the central region of the State of Minnesota. The Huckstable Empire was founded on November 2, 2020, shortly after declaring secession from the United States of America on October 29, 2020. The current population of the Empire is 14 (as of March 9, 2021). The Huckstable Empire is led by an honorary Emperor/Empress and is governed by a Legislative Assembly.

Etymology

The Huckstable Empire's name derives from the first, and current Emperor of The Huckstable Empire, Huck I. The term "Huckstable" was a nickname used for Huck previous to the establishment of the Empire, and was made the name of the Empire as decided on by The Huckstable Empire Preliminary Government.

History

The idea for a micronation first came up to the founders of The Huckstable Empire, Jack and Teddy Burnes, after discussion and planning for one. The main reason to secede and create a separate country was due to the state of the United States at the time and a want for general sovereignty. The United States was in the wake of the George Floyd Riots, and the response of the United States to them was a justification for the creation of The Empire.

On October 29, 2020, the document titled Deceleration of Secession was announced and signed by the founders of The Huckstable Empire, Jack and Teddy Burnes. The document granted the property they inhabited in Central Minnesota two basic precepts: 1, freedom and autonomy from the rule of the United States and any other local government, and 2, permission to create a state where they and the citizens of the Empire could govern themselves. After this declaration, three days later, the document titled The Constitution of The Huckstable Empire was completed and became the basis of the Empire's law, government, and rights. The Constitution was written solely by Teddy Burnes, and contains around 25 pages with just over 7,400 words. The day The Constitution was signed, The First Huckstable Empire Bi-Annual Federal Elections took place. Due to the small size of the government and Empire at the time, only one person ran on each government position, though people were allowed to run for a contested position. After the vote, all elected officials were sworn into their respective offices, and the official Huckstable Empire Government was formed.

After the official Huckstable Empire Government was formed, on December 6, 2020, the first bill was passed in the Huckstable Empire. This bill established the official departments of the Economy, the Military, and Customs. Bill 1A enabled the Ministers of the Departments to now run and have their departments function, so long as they: 1, employ another person who was a citizen to their department and 2, show the Proof of Employment document to the Legislators to certify. Eventually, all departments followed this process and were all established over time. Eventually, more bills would be passed like Bill 2A, to establish the general information of The Huckstable Empire such as the flag design and anthem. The flag had been hoisted above the Empire for some time, but it was officially raised on March 7 by the 1st Degree Honor Guard of The Huckstable Empire.

Politics and government

The Huckstable Empire has a system in which the Emperor or Empress represents the Empire as a whole, but does not hold any power. In addition, the Emperor/Empress is always the eldest dog owned the official property owners of the Huckstable Empire's mainland household. The current emperor of the Huckstable Empire is Huck I, of which the namesake of the Empire is from. The Huckstable Empire is governed by a Legislative Assembly. It compromises of a Minister of Affairs, who oversees all the other Ministers and the Departments they lead, the Ministers of the Economy, the Military, and Customs all oversee their respective departments as well. In addition to the ministers, the Legislators are the law-passing body of the Empire, who vote on bills made by the Minister of Affairs. There are currently three legislator seats in the Empire. Finally, the Court is the judge, who rules on constitutionality of bills and also decides upon legal affairs.

The Huckstable Empire has a unique way to keep the checks and balances between the citizens and the government in check. At any given time, for any given reason, if the people of The Empire would like to remove a government official, they may petition to The Court and hold an official vote to remove the government official from their office.

The Empire also holds elections twice a year on the federal level, on May and November 2, ran by the Department of Customs and The Court.

Law and order

The Huckstable Empire does not necessarily need a law enforcement system, though, The Constitution allows for the Military to act as it. The judicial system of The Empire is ran by The Court. There are not any crimes necessarily in The Empire, but if a person in the Huckstable Empire, as decided on by The Court, has broken an Essential or Fundamental Right, as stated in The Constitution, they are subject to punishment at the discretion of the Court.

Foreign relations

The Huckstable Empire has held an open policy for allies, but as of now has none. This is mainly because due to the newness of The Empire, formalities, laws, and the Empire is the number one priority. The Huckstable Empire has only, up to this point, accepted people with connections to the Empire directly as citizens, but is open to expanding it.

Military

The Huckstable Empire's Military is ran by the Department of the Military, overseen by the Minister of the Military. On March 7, 2020, the first official division of the Military was made, the 1st Degree Honor Guard, who's role is to protect The Huckstable Empire and do a daily inspection of the land. The sole military base of The Huckstable Empire is Fort Rat Rock, situated behind the main household on the mainland. This too was established on March 7, 2020. The Empire is looking at creating more divisions, and possibly having an artillery wing and navy.

The main weapon of The Huckstable Empire Military is an air-soft gun or a salt gun. An air-soft gun shoots air-soft pellets while a salt gun uses salt to deliver devastating results at close range, like a shotgun.

The unofficial flag of the Department of the Military is the dandelion yellow flag, which is flown at Fort Rat Rock.

Territories and Expansion

The Huckstable Empire has never had plans to violently or forcefully force a territory to join The Empire. Rather, The Constitution of The Huckstable Empire lays out that territories can be added to the Empire so long as they are governed by local leadership. The Huckstable Empire mainland is also allowed to divide itself into a North and South Province, if local leadership is wanted or needed. The Constitution does however state that a separate bill to lay out the requirements for new territories must be first made, in order to provide a sense of stability and order to new territories. As of now, The Empire has not pursued expansion and has stuck to only having a mainland territory, undivided into provinces as of now.

Geography and climate

The Huckstable Empire mainland is in Central Minnesota, and due to its location experiences the usual upper midwestern weather tendencies, with mild summers and cold, snowy winters. The weather in the winter is often used for strategic advantage. During the winter months of 2020 and early 2021, the founders of the Huckstable Empire, Jack and Teddy Burnes, made walls around what is now Fort Rat Rock for defensive purposes out of the surrounding snow.

The Department of the Economy uses the spring and autumn months for its main purpose as a Department, which is to oversee the agricultural production in The Empire. The first planting of crops in The Empire is expected to happen in the spring of 2021. Pre-dating The Empire's establishment, the mainland has often planted and yielded peppers, tomatoes, carrots, peas, and other fruits and vegetables.

Economy

The economy of The Huckstable Empire has been essentially non-existent for its start-up months, nor does it need to be existent. Almost all citizens of The Empire are also United States Citizens, and generally participate in labor and trade in the United States. All government endeavors by the Huckstable Empire are privately funded, and thus the Economy is not an extreme focus.

Culture and media

The Huckstable Empire's culture is mainly undefined for the vast majority of citizens. Considering the fact most citizens don't live on the mainland, it is hard to scale what the culture is. Most of The Empire is Christian, and though the main sponsored religion is Roman Catholic, this religion is not forced.

There has been no data collection of citizen culture in the Huckstable Empire, so there is no measurement yet to show what the official culture is like.

The Huckstable Empire has started an unofficial discord to help with communication in the Empire. This was started to help with communication between citizens, legislators, and all people. All citizens are also on a mailing list. Both forms of communication receive weekly and monthly updates from the Minister of Affairs, in which citizens are informed of new bills, policy, and more.
