Symbolism

The colours of the flag carry political meanings. The black resembles the difficult past of the nation, the red resembles bloodshed, the blue resembles both the North Sea coast and the bright future for the nation, and the white resembles peace and prosperity. The official meaning behind the flag's symbols were formulated by the designer of the flag, whom is unknown.
