The flag of the Commonwealth of Rathunis is an emerald green flag with a large white triangle rising from the bottom corners of the flag to a point in the top centre, and an emerald green depiction of the southern cross in the centre of the triangle.
The flag was designed by the king and enacted as the National Flag of the nation under the Flags and Symbols Act 2015, replacing the original design of the former Principality.
The Commonwealth also has a white version of the flag, known as the Rathunis Civil and Merchant Ensign.
Devices
The Flag of Rathunis uses only one major symbol: the depiction of the Southern Cross, one of the most distinctive constellations visible in the Southern Hemisphere.
Construction
Under the Flags and Symbols Act 2015, the flag is constructed as follows:
The National Flag of the Commonwealth of Rathunis shall be an emerald green flag, in proportions of 1:2, and shall have the following design:-
- (a) A solid white triangle, rising from the bottom corners of the flag to a point in the top centre; and
- (b) Five emerald green stars (representing the Southern Cross) in the centre of the triangle.
Other Flags
The Flags and Symbols Act 2015 prescribe the Civil and Merchant Ensign to be as follows:
(1) The white flag, described in Part II of Schedule 1, being the flag a reproduction of which is set out in Part II of Schedule 2, is declared to be the Civil and Merchant Ensign of the Commonwealth of Rathunis. (2) The Civil and Merchant Ensign of the Commonwealth of Rathunis shall be the only flag used on or by all aircraft and maritime vessels, except the Sovereign’s aircraft and ships of war, which are registered in the Commonwealth of Rathunis.
Section 5 of the Act permits the Sovereign to appoint any other flags and ensigns of the Commonwealth as he sees fit.
Royal Standard
The Royal Standard is for the personal use of the Soveriegn only. It is described in the Schedule of the Dynasty Law as follows:
The Royal Standard of the King and of of the Commonwealth of Rathunis shall be an emerald green flag, in proportions of 1:2, and shall have the following design:-
- (a) A solid white triangle, rising from the bottom corners of the flag to a point in the top centre; and
- (b) The Royal Arms in the centre of the triangle.
