File is clearly not user work and all school images (bought or not) are under the companies respected copyright. --Cookieman1.1.1 (talk) 00:56, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Cookieman1.1.1: This is one of those many ifs and buts scenarios, but I am about 99% sure most studios license school photos under the Creative Commons Atrribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. In that case, while the copyright does belong to the studio there should be no issue in uploading it here. addison (talk) 01:27, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@AgentBro:https://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html no proof it isn't, even so user claims they own copyright over it as their work. File should be deleted. --Cookieman1.1.1 (talk) 02:05, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Cookieman1.1.1: This page lays out the steps for responsible use of copyrighted works in Christina's school district. The first is "check to see who owns it" - the studio. Next is "get permission to use it" - by allowing your photo to be taken and by purchasing it gives you permission to use it in this sense. Next, "give credit to the creator" - this is actually a valid point, as Christina did not give the proper credit. Next, "buy it (if necessary)" - I will assume Christina bought it if she managed to get her hands on a digital copy. Finally, "use it responsibly" - uploading an image that she has permission to use on a wiki is responsible use as there is no money being made from it nor is there any reason for the copyright owner (the studio) to file a claim since she has the rights to use it. In conclusion, Christina uploading her school photo onto a wiki is totally fine according to her school district but the wrong license was used in this sense and no credit was given, so I believe the image should be deleted, but reuploaded with the proper credit. addison (talk) 02:40, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Cookieman1.1.1: Claiming that this is not user-work is fine; but claiming that the companies copyright is enforced after someone buys a photo is incorrect. The file leases the copyright to that buyer; and assuming that Christina bought this file, the rights are technically hers now. That's literally how all stock-images workβ€” same for school-photos. "school images (bought or not) are under the companies respected copyright" is just fundamentally incorrect. cameron (talk) 02:42, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Cameron basically summarized by argument perfectly. addison (talk) 02:43, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Niko3818: No evidence that photo was even purchased. Argument still stands. Even so user is claiming it as "own work". --Cookieman1.1.1 (talk) 03:31, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@AgentBro: No evidence that school owns copyright of images, obsolete. even so "use it responsibly" is not uploading something you did not make and releasing it to the public as your own work. --Cookieman1.1.1 (talk) 03:36, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Delete Not the users work. --Cookieman1.1.1 (talk) 03:38, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Cookieman1.1.1.: You literally just sent a link to copyright.gov which considers the takers of the image the copyright holders. How could Christina have gotten her hands on a digital copy if she had not purchased it? The school would not just post that online somewhere as that is a major breach of privacy. addison (talk) 03:48, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
On a side note, if your main issue with the image is Christina claiming it as hers, its not that hard to upload it again under the correct license as I have done here. addison (talk) 03:55, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@AgentBro: Many ways, online yearbooks, school grade-book sites, photo scanning from books etc. The school would never publicly post an individuals image somewhere yes, but they will or can put it on password required sites relating to school accounts or post it indirectly to the public via online yearbooks. --Cookieman1.1.1 (talk) 04:25, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Cookieman1.1.1.: The chances of that being the case are extremely slim because A) Houston Independent School District doesn't make online yearbooks, and B) the size of the file and the quality (especially) makes it extremely unlikely that it was scanned. The only explanation would be a digital purchase. border style="color:black" addison (talk) 04:38, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keeping the file; no more debate cameron (talk) 05:21, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Niko3818: I would recommend getting rid of this one since it has the wrong license. I uploaded a version with the correct license here, so that the sole article it's used on isn't affected by the removal of this one. border style="color:black" addison (talk) 05:25, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@LittleMissDexterous: If you were gonna do that just edit the license on this one... cameron (talk) 05:32, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Niko3818: Uhm... that isn't how it works, I don't think... border style="color:black" addison (talk) 05:34, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I bought the image, I do not go to HISD, and I edited the license on this one to just fix it. Editing a license is completely the thing on the wiki. Also my school does not make online yearbooks either, and the yearbook is not even published yet. Furthermore if wanted I can instead add a micronational license to it as it is used as my official headshot in Cycoldia, something that I would also ask that Aidan stop editing to remove. --𝙷𝙸𝙼 π™²πš‘πš›πš’πšœπšπš’πš—πšŠ 𝙸 𝚘𝚏 π™²πš’πšŒπš˜πš•πšπš’πšŠ (πšπšŠπš•πš”) 12:33, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also I find it quite funny you were all arguing in theoretical assumptions of how I got it, rather than asking me or just like asking me on my talk page to correct the license added to it. I also did ask my school before using this photo as my official headshot, as I had asked an administrator at my school about that. --𝙷𝙸𝙼 π™²πš‘πš›πš’πšœπšπš’πš—πšŠ 𝙸 𝚘𝚏 π™²πš’πšŒπš˜πš•πšπš’πšŠ (πšπšŠπš•πš”) 12:38, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
