History

Prehistory

Not much is known of Centonian history before the 20th century. Before Europeans settled the area where Centonia was, it is believed that the Iroqouis, Powhatan, and Shawnee tribes lived in and around the area of where Centonia existed.

Founding

On April 22, 2022, The Federal Republic of Centonia was formally proclaimed as a Constitutional federal republic, with a similar government to what Centonia currently operates under. Centonia's land at the time was entirely surrounded by the United States. Samuel D, who drafted the nation's Declaration of Independence, was proclaimed President of Centonia. It had a population of 21, and a land area of 1,383 square feet. It's currency were known as "Creek Bucks". It's capital was in a plain next to a swamp, with a bridge connecting the two parts of the nation. It's declaration of independence was ratified by only a few citizens, resulting in the falling-out that later ensued.

On April 25, 2022, three days after Centonia was founded, the entity known as the Federal Republic of Centonia ceased to exist. This happened after several disagreements revolving around land claims and an unfair system of government that was put in place. President Samuel Wootan officially declared the state to be a historical country, and the land that Centonia once stood on was transferred back to the United States of America.

Reorganization

On February 8, 2023, in an attempt to restore Centonia, Samuel Wootan drafted and signed a new declaration of independence, and organized a provisional government for Centonia, until a proper constitution was drafted and signed. After three more months, the Federal Republic of Centonia had a constitution that was signed by multiple government members, thus making the second government and its land claims a legal entity. The second constitution was signed on May 26th, 2023.

Dissolution

On March 19, 2024, Samuel Wootan announced the dissolution and reformation of Centonia. The Federal Republic of Centonia was officially dissolved, and on the same day, Samuel Wootan proclaimed the creation of the Kingdom of Centonia.

Etymology

The name "Centonia" comes from two different words, Centennia and Latomia. Centennia derives from the english phrase, "Centennial". Latomia derives from the phrase "Latin Tomany". Latin Tomany is a made up phrase.
