The Empire of New Rome was a constitutional monarchy established in the Summer of 2016 with HM Emperor Roman I as head of state. It was located in the state of Wisconsin, United States, and did not consider itself to be a successor state to the Roman Empire. The Empire was dissolved on 26 November 2020. History
Foundation & Turmoil
The Empire of New Rome was a constitutional monarchy established in the Summer of 2016. Started as a movement for independence from the nearby micronational City-State of Athens, Roman attempted to first install himself and neighbor Therin as a diarchy to rule over the city-states of Memphis and Lincoln. Therin refused and did not appear when a declaration of sovereignty was pushed to members of Athens, Kya, and Anya. They openly voiced disagreement and discontent to royalty, then proceeded to instigate a revolution soon after. The declaration of sovereignty was damaged in a struggle for the document. The following day, Roman erected a paper flag over the main square of Memphis in an effort to solidify his claim, but it was soon torn down by Kya and Anya. No known record of this original flag still exists. An argument broke out over the matter, and in the ensuing scuffle, Anya was injured. Roman abandoned his attempt to establish a sovereign state, thus ending the Athenian Revolution. He began writing another(yet incomplete) document of independence but to no avail. In this rather short document, New Rome was stated to be an empire with Roman himself as Emperor, and a new capital city called Tripontium. The new capital city is theorized to have actually been the city of Athens which Roman I had secretly intended to conquer, as the name "Tripontium" roughly translates as "of three bridges"; these three bridges do in fact exist and are located in the city of Athens. However, these plans never came to fruition, and thus the newly formed Empire of New Rome fell into inactivity.
Reign of Roman I
Roman ascended the throne as HM Emperor Roman I on the 16/17 June/July(Exact date unknown) 2016. The beginning of his reign was tumultuous, caught between a revolution and his inability to effectively take power. Thus, the Empire remained in a state of inactivity throughout the majority of Roman's reign. He officially abdicated the throne on 14 July 2018 at exactly 5:15 PM(CST).
Reactivation and Interregnum
In July 2018, Roman realized that he had not officially dismantled or dissolved New Rome or its monarchal government. He decided against this, and instead abdicated the throne in hopes that another person might someday make a worthwhile micronation of his failed creation. The Empire of New Rome was in a state of Interregnum which began after the abdication of Roman I. New Rome's former territory was first claimed by the Republic of Ravina in 2017 and then annexed in 2018 by the Kingdom of Ebneria, both of which occurred during the Empire's inactivity.
Official Dissolution
On 26 November 2020, a Royal Proclamation was issued by King Roman I Conqueror of Ebneria, and read as follows:
By Royal Proclamation of Roman I Conqueror, King of Ebneria, the Empire of New Rome is hereby disbanded and shall no longer exist as a sovereign entity.
