The Empire of Calypso is a micronation advocating for the change of how humanity lives in order to promote the well-being and survival of all species everywhere. The empire strives for equality and equity for all beings, people of color, people of religion, people of sexual orientation, and women’s rights. It stands for reducing pollution, cutting the world’s carbon footprint, and working toward a cleaner and healthier world in order to stave off global warming.

History

The Empire of Calypso was founded on 1 March 2019 when Tiberius Storm signed the Calypso Declaration of Independence, claiming sovereignty for the new nation. On 15 March, 2019 Emperor Tiberius Storm signed into law the Constitution of the Empire of Calypso. A nation was born and had clear laws and rights. Since then, it has made a point of saving animals, promoting climate change mitigation, and standing up for those who's rights have been threatened.

Geography and Climate

The Empire of Calypso has three territories within the southeastern United States, namely Florida. The land is generally flat with low, rolling hills. Calypso City, the capital, is the center for everything that is Calypso and is bordered by Florida on three sides and an unnamed territory it also controls on its southern border. The Imperial Residence is located in Calypso City, where the Emperor and Empress reside. Within the city, the Imperial Garden has become a test bed for agriculture and a move toward complete self-sustenance and independence from macronations (the United States in particular). Several citizens also belong there for the purposes of governing and population proportion, as well as a number of rescued animals too. The southern property provides income for the empire, although no actual "citizens" occupy this area. Residents pay for the use of housing. This territory has loosely been called Calypso City South. Citrus is the empire's third property. It consists of less than one acre of woodland and is in discussions for development. Agriculture and ball fields have been discussed as possible uses.

As of May, 2022, the empire lies in a subtropical region with climate generally being hot and humid with strong thunderstorms and even hurricanes possible in the summer and autumn months. Winters are mostly mild to cool with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing. These months bring little precipitation as the "wet season" occurs mid to late year.

Government

The Empire of Calypso has three branches of government; the Sole Sovereign, the Financial Branch, and the Assembly.

The Sole Sovereign is the branch that belongs to the Emperor. This branch oversees all other branches of governments and departments too. The Sole Sovereign has the final say in any and all decisions that affect the empire. That is not to say that the other branches don't have their say in governmental decisions, but one of the Sole Sovereign's primary responsibilities is to provide checks and balances to decisions on the empire's behalf.

The Financial Branch is typically run by the Empress. This branch deals with everything related to the empire's finances, including budgets, spending, credit, debits, and the daily accounting for everything related to monies. The Empress is second in line to the Emperor in the event of his inability to perform his duties. Should he become incapacitated, or even unable to govern for a short time, the Empress has express authority to take over the Sole Sovereign role.

The Assembly is the main governing body for the empire. It consists of two Houses; the House of Legislators and the House of Governors. While Legislators write laws, Governors approve or deny them and may run different states. The two house setup provides for its own self-contained checks and balances system to promote fair governing, proportional to citizens' wants and needs.

Additionally, there are different departments with different responsibilities, based on the departments’ requirements.
