Development

ElarOS 1

The development of ElarOS 1 spanned approximately three months, leading up to its release alongside the Elaro Air and Elaro Pro smartphones. During the alpha testing phase, ElarOS 1 had a few notable characteristics. Apps were initially categorized alphabetically, indicating an early approach to organization. The user interface featured a minimalist design, aiming for simplicity. ElarOS 1 embraced a minimalist design philosophy at this stage. It did not include a home screen, and users did not have the option to add one either. The lock screen was also devoid of any information, lacking a clock or any additional details.

However, as development progressed and feedback was gathered from alpha testing, the development team decided to steer away from minimalism. They recognized the importance of providing users with more customization options and a richer user experience. During the alpha testing phase of ElarOS 1, the development team actively sought feedback from users. It became evident that users desired more flexibility, personalization options, and additional functionality in their operating system.

Responding to the feedback and evolving user expectations, the development team decided to shift away from minimalism. They recognized that providing users with a richer and more feature-packed experience was essential to meet their needs and preferences.

ElarOS 2

ElarOS 2 was developed using ElarOS 1 as the launchpad. During the development of ElarOS 2, the team decided that it would be best to include new features. Gyroscopes on mobile devices were used for features such as a compass and 3D moving wallpapers. An expanded range of categories, now including features like a compass, weather, and calendar applications, provided users with even more functionality. In ElarOS 2, the news page has been updated to focus on micronational and Elarian news, offering a more tailored news experience for users. Special versions of ElarOS 2, namely ElarOS Silver and Gold, come with additional widgets for notes and YouTube, enhancing user convenience and productivity.
