Nova Silesiae, (No-va See-le-zee-a) lit. New Silesia, is a micronation in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Nova Silesiae declared independence from the United Kingdom at 4:25 pm BST on 9 April 2022.
The territory of Nova Silesiae is based on the outskirts of Dumfries, a town in southern Scotland which the River Nith flows through.
Etymology
The name "Nova Silesiae" means "New Silesia" in Latin. It was inspired by "Nova Scotia".
History
Formation
Duke Krystian I slowly began to get more interested in Micronationalism again, this would result in him going on a 4-hour long walk to find suitable land to occupy, he was looking for isolated and undisturbed land, that was also bordering the river, and he found it in what is now Nowy Brassel. Using a 5-foot-long stick, he carved a flag into the sand and planted the stick next to it, deep into the sand. After the political crisis in 2023 in the Duchy, Duke transferred the title and his powers to Andriy-Ludwig, Grand Prince of Belakray, who changed the title from Duchy to Principality on 24.05.2023.
Migration
The Duke found a way better area, with a large building that could be occupied as a fort. The Lincluden Abbey. It was inside of the new territory which was about 524 times as large as the old. The Lincluden abbey would be unofficially renamed to the Royal Fortress and would be from where the Duke governed and such.
Government and Politics
Monarchy
Nova Silesiae is an Absolute Monarchy with no sort of Upper or Lower House. The duke takes part in diplomatic, political, and internal matters.
Foreign Relations
Nova Silesiae has openly supported the Constitutional Monarchy Kingdom of Itasca in its civil conflict.
Military
The army of the Duchy of Nova Silesiae consists of a Militia regiment which is always in reserve. There have been no conflicts that the Duchy has taken part in, and the Duke openly hopes it stays that way.
The military stockpile consists of the Royal Spear, and nothing else.
The Royal Spear is a 4–5 foot long stick in the possession of the Duke of Nova Silesiae. It was harvested by Duke Krystian I during his exploration for land to claim and kept due to its peculiar, spear-like shape. The ends of the stick have been sharpened, but the spear is mostly used in helping to hike and check the depth of the river around him.
Geography and Climate
The terrain of Nova Silesiae is relatively flat, but it does have a very large hill.
The climate is similar to the town of Dumfries, however winds and such can differ, mostly due to the nation being based on the side of a river. In the past few years, the nation has seen a temperature as low as -9°C in the winter, while a record high of 46°C in the Summer. However, on average, the temperature of the Duchy is 0°C - 5°C in winter, 10°C - 15°C in spring, 15°C - 25°C in summer, and 10°C - 20°C in autumn. It is pretty rainy on average, and there are frequent river floods.
Tourism
Nova Silesiae sees 4-7 tourists a day, this tourist industry is fully funded mostly by fishing and people visiting the ruined monastery inside of Silesiaen Territory.
