The Democratic Republic of Egg, more commonly known as Egg, is a micronation in the U.S state of Minnesota. The nation has various traditions in its history, including its national game, 'Steal the Shoe'. Egg has multiple military branches, such as the Ducks, the Chickens, the Talons, the Swans, and the Yolks. The government is a liberal democracy, characterized by a libertarian-left ideology, allowing people to choose their leaders and social environment, while the government controls how much and when people get paid. The Leader's term is typically three months, though exceptions have occurred when previous leaders were deemed ineffective by the population. 'Egg's Laws and Rights' outline procedures for addressing such situations.

Etymology

The etymology of Egg is unusual. The name "Egg" originated from a miscommunication, as the founder misunderstood a conversation. At an important moment, the founder responded with "Egg." without hearing the other person's question about the nation's name, resulting in the adoption of the name, Egg.

History

The Democratic Republic of Egg originated in a school classroom where students built a fort. The founder of Egg improved the fort with lights, which his peers enjoyed so much that they made him the president. When the fort was dismantled after three days, the founder decided to expand the nation outside, aiming to create a sophisticated nation with the help of two friends. They later engaged in a conflict with a rival group, which eventually seceded into Egg after being defeated. They then graduated from the school, leading to a period of inactivity. Later, the founder revived the micronation by claiming new land and inviting others once more.

Politics and Government

Egg's system of governance resembles that of the United States, with a democratic process for electing leaders. However, it incorporates distinct ideologies, such as the communistic principle of paying its citizens. Egg has three branches, which decide on conflict status, strategies, and law-making.

Early Government

Egg's early government was relatively simple, incorporating the current ideologies but with a centrist approach. This later evolved, because centrism and democracy proved to be incompatible, leading to the lack of diversity, which was inefficient for the nation's important political debates.

Defense Branch

The defense branch of the Democratic Republic of Egg is in charge of the military. Military commanders are responsible for making decisions about entering wars, developing military strategies, and overseeing the Agency of Location Tracking (A.L.T). Additionally, the defense branch can ratify or veto proposed laws. This process includes reevaluating laws due to significant population changes, which could influence citizens' perspectives on the laws.

Executive branch

Egg's executive branch has the authority to propose the revocation of a law due to population changes or changed opinions on the law from the citizens. This proposal to remove it is then passed to the legislative branch, which votes to either approve the removal or veto it. Additionally, the executive branch determines punishments for criminals, while the legislative branch holds the power to determine guilt.

Legislative branch

The legislative branch of Egg proposes new laws and submitting them to the other branches for either veto or ratification. For a law to be approved, it must receive approval from two out of the three branches. The legislative branch also handles proposals from the executive branch to revoke laws deemed unnecessary, based on criteria such as a population change of 50% or more, or general disapproval from citizens. Laws should not be removed because of biased opinions from celebrities or public figures to prevent manipulation of votes. If a law meets all requirements for removal, the legislative branch will either veto or ratify it. If vetoed, the proposal is sent to the other branches for further consideration. The legislative branch determines the guilt or innocence of prisoners, a process in which the executive branch is not permitted to interfere.

Military

The national military of the Democratic Republic of Egg has a history that dates back to the nation's founding. Initially, they relied on unreliable weapons such as snow and woodchips, which proved effective in two notable conflicts. The first, known as the "Slavo-Eggi" war or "The Coldest War", involved a conflict with a newly formed, hostile neighboring nation, the 'Slavic Union'. Despite being outnumbered, Egg resolved the conflict to a conclusive victory with only minor injuries on both sides.

Another significant conflict was "The Bad Eggs" war, where Egg faced a powerful enemy, named 'Anti-Egg'. During this war, the military used a clever tactic involving a misleading document to secure victory. Nowadays, Egg's military personnel are equipped with high-velocity airsoft rifles and bottle rockets. The military, as of October 26th, 2024, comprises all the population because of many people leaving.

Geography and Climate

The geography of the Democratic Republic of Egg is diverse and extreme. Summers are typically dry with temperatures ranging between 70 and 90°F. Autumn brings milder conditions, with temperatures comfortably sitting between 60 and 70°F. Winters are harsh and unforgiving, with temperatures plummeting to as low as -20 to 30°F. In spring, temperatures range from 30 to 60°F, melting the snow which causes the Elk River to overflow, leading to flooding in the capital, New Yolk. Sometimes the flooding can reach depths of six feet. This flooding can pause their construction efforts, affecting the economy in Egg.

National Bird

The national bird of the Democratic Republic of Egg is not the chicken, but the black-capped chickadee. This choice is because of the bird's abundance and its almost immediate recognizability in the wooded areas, including the capital city, New Yolk.

Economy

The Chicken Tender, the official currency of the Democratic Republic of Egg, was established on March 20, 2024. The name, proposed by Kiera, was adopted because of its clever double entendre. The Chicken Tender is approximately equivalent to 5 USD.

Culture

Unique traditions and customs characterize the culture of the Democratic Republic of Egg. Easter holds significant importance in the nation, helping with tourism. One notable tradition is the game "Steal the Shoe," in which participants attempt to take another's shoe and keep it away from them. Another example of a culture in Egg, in cases of treason, the punishment involves filling the convict's clothes with ice, snow, and woodchips until they can't fit anymore. Another specific practice is the public humiliation of citizens who hit a child under the age of 13 at precisely 2:38 PM on a Tuesday, occurring 3 hours, 14 minutes, 15 seconds, and 92 milliseconds after the offense. Despite these unusual traditions, Egg is known for its inviting population.
