The Republican Jarldom of Sletturland , more commonly known as Sletturland, is a micronation in Midwestern America. Sletturland was formed in 2022 during political turmoil in the former United States of America. Since then the Republic won against the State of Illinois in the Illinois-Sletturlander War. The culture has close resemblance to Slavic and Norse cultures as well as Germanic cutures. The largest religion in the nation is Asatru, while the second most is Rodnovery.

Sletturland is a Federal Republic run by an elected Authoritarian Jarl. The title of Jarl is by name only and Sletturland is constitutionally forbidden from having a monarchy or royal family. The Legislative Branch of the Government is run by the High Council, which is split between the Council of the Military and the Council of the Civilians. The Council of the Military manages affairs relating to the Military, Foreign Policy, and Law and Order. While the Council of the Civilians manages civilian affairs. Sletturland rates in the middle on the Human Rights Index, it ranks high in measures of Quality of Life, and Education. There are medium levels of incarceration and permits Capital Punishment. Due to the recent war, many areas of the nation are behind in Infrastructure.

Sletturland's only embassy is located in Spechtenia and is the only nation Sletturland has a treaty with. The Treaty permits Sletturlander civilian and military ships to travel through the Spechtenian controlled parts of the Mississippi River

Etymology

The name Sletturland comes from the word "Slettur" from Old Norse meaning Plains. The area controlled by Sletturland are mainly Great Plains and Prairie. The term Republican Jarldom is referring to the lack of Monarchy while using the title of Jarl.

History

Further information: History of Illinois During the political turmoil at the end of the United States of America, the region split of from the State of Illinois, which was then a independent nationstate. After a war for independence, Sletturland came into existance. New territories were annexed after the Treaty of Joliet. Estimating casualties and population effects of the war is near impossible due to large transport ships sinking in the Mississippi River during the War

Politics and government

Sletturland is a mixed Democratic and Authoritarian government in which the leader is elected and has large amounts of power similar to a historical Jarl. Sletturland is a federal republic of 6 States, officially called Holdings. The Federal government has the majority of the power over Holding governments. The Federal Government is composed of the Council of the Military and the Council of the Civilians, while Holding governments are composed of just one Holding Council.

Sletturland operates under a Multi-Party System, while the People's Party of Sletturland holds a supermajority in the Legislative Branch of the Government. The People's Party of Sletturland is an Economically Far-Left, and Socially Far-Left to Right party founded by the current leader of Sletturland.

Sletturland's policies are often described as Socialist and Nationalist. the PPS does not claim to be socialist but it's own unnamed populist ideology.

The Mandate of Sletturland serves as the Republic's Supreme Legal Document and has only had 1 amendment in the Nation's history.

Law and order

There are 7 police agencies in Sletturland, each is managed by both the Holding and Federal Government, with the exception of the Raven Organization, which is managed by the Federal Government only. Police often do not carry firearms, favoring batons or tazers. The standard police firearm is a 38. Special Snub-Nosed Revolver with low stopping power bullets. The amount of police that carry firearms is estimated to be 10% of the total force.

Sletturland permits Capital Punishment constitutionally, the only cases in which it is permitted to be sentenced is in cases of Mass Murder, Rape and Child Abuse.

Military

The Military of Sletturland is one of the most powerful entities in the Government of Sletturland. The Jarl of Sletturland is the Absolute Commander of the Sletturland Armed Forces and appoints each leader of each branch personally. The Headquarters of the Military is located at the Grand Military Council Building in Freyavidr. The Military of Sletturland is managed between 5 branches, which are the Grand Army, High Navy, Air Valkyries, Longship Guards, and the Tyr's Berserkers.

The symbol identifying the Sletturland military is either the Sletturland Coat of Arms or a symbol of Tyr, sometimes Naval ships use a drawing of Rán.

Sletturland's Military has an extensive Conscription program. All adults, regardless of sex, are required to either be in active service or be in reserve from ages 19-24. Exceptions are made for adults in College, Police, Disabled People, and Pregnant Women.

Tyr's Berserkers are the Maritime Ground forces of Sletturland's Military and are trained longer and more extensively than the Grand Army. Berserkers are taught to favor the use of melee when possible, especially with Battle Axes, as it is seen as more honorable. Berserkers are often deployed on raids on riverside towns in Missouri and even as North as Minnesota and South as Arkansas
