The Second Republic of Sternia, more commonly known as Sternia, is a micronation in Oakhurst, United States. The micronation claims 5 acres of land in California. The micronation was founded by Hugo Godina in 2020.
Etymology
Before Sternia was called Sternia it had two other names. Those names were Lecub and Örtingburg. Lecub was the very first name Sternia had and it comes from the Sternian god cub. After a couple years it would change to Örtingburg and finally Sternia.
History
Sternia was founded in the winter of 2020 by Hugo Godina. Originally is was founded as a constitutional monarchy, however, this wouldn't last long. Due to an unstable constitution the young nation would fall into new hands after being couped. One year later in 2021 Hugo Godina would return to Sternia and claim it back as the government during this time was extremely weak. In that same year Sternia would become a communist state with a newly written constitution based on communist ideals. This state would last for another year when finally in 2022 a revolution broke out against the communist government. Hugo Godina would step down as president to help form a democratic government. In 2023 a conclusion was made. Hugo Godina would become the appointed captain regent of Sternia. This office would limit his powers in a multitude of ways. The elected captain regent would take higher office and lead the nation along with the appointee. A new constitution was written which claimed to be a diarchy republic.
Politics and government
Sternia is built up of one body called the council. The council is responsible for legislation, justice, and the administration of jurisdiction. The council votes on everything such as bills, amendments, and more. The council also votes for the captain regent (the state head). Once a captain is elected they will serve until their death, and beforehand they must choose their successor from their cabinet. Most of the time this would be the appointed captain regent. The appointed captain regent is the co-leader that is chosen by the elected leader. They lead the country together and approve or disapprove on things voted on by the council. The council is monitored by three people. The council speaker, the council chair, and the council writer. Their jobs are to listen to what goes on in the council bring order to the council, and read a loud topics for the council. The second in command of the regents are the chancellors. There are two chancellors, the supreme chancellor and the deputy chancellor. Both are responsible for the regents is jobs if the regents are unable to fulfil their duties in any way.
Early government
Sternia had a constitutional monarchy that was very short lived. A system that did last longer, however, was the communist state. During this time Sternia was built up on communist ideas and followed them. This ideology would not last long as a revolution broke out and the people showed through violence that they were not happy with the communist government. Thus, the revolution proved successful and a democratic government was established.
Captain regent
The captain regent rules along side the appointed captain regent. Both rule in accordance to the constitution and one another. They usually from the same party and lead the country that is backed by the council. They interact with the council's decision and can approve or deny them. The council does have the ability to over rule the captains' veto through vote, this occurrence is rare, however.
Supreme chancellor
Similarly to the captains the chancellor also rules along side someone else. This would be the deputy chancellor who is elected by the council rather than appointed. Both are head of government and run the nation along side the constitution and each other. The chancellors can also be given tasks called upon by either of the captains and the chancellors are to abide by those decisions.
Legislature
The legislative branch of Sternia is built up of the council. The council is lead by the speakers and there they vote on amendments, bills ,and a lot more. This council votes on laws that are wanted to be passed and sent to the regents. The captain regents have the ability to veto the decisions but the council also has the ability to veto the veto through majority vote.
