The Monquesian Republic, also known as Monquesia is a country located in central Portugal (Europe). The european territory of Monquesia consists of a section of the president's house, while the antarctic territory consists of the claims over Mary Byrd Land. The population currently consists of 3 citizens.

The Monquesian Republic is currently applying to GUM.

History

The Monquesian Republic was founded in 23 February 2023 by the current president Henrique. The constitution was ratified in 5 March 2023, ten days after the proclamation of independence. The motivations for the separation from Portugal were mainly the will to have an independent state. The monquesian territory consists of its european part and some claims over Antarctica, more precisely the Mary Byrd Land.

Politics and government

Monquesia is a Parlamentary Republic, the president is the head of state, while the premier is the head of government. The president is elected by the citizens every two years, and the premier is appointed by the president according to the result of the legislative elections, that happen every year.

Head of state

The president is the supreme head of state. He exercises the functions of Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Master of the Three Orders, and appoints and dismisses, on a proposal from the parlament.

Geography and climate

European Monquesia has a temperate climate, similar to the rest of western europe. While the antarctic territories have a dry and extremly cold weather, only seen in Antarctica. The average temperature in european Monquesia is around 20°c, with the average temperature in the antarctic territories being around -70°c

Economy

The nation's GDP is around 24€, with the GDP Per Capita being around 8€. The economy is based on trade with Europe, more precisely with Portugal. The country imports all of it's basic products. Monquesia has little to no natural ressources.
