The Republic of Ketonia, more commonly known as Ketonia, is a micronation in Britanny...founded by Kepta on 4th July 2021 The Micronation's objective is artistic rather than political,The micronation experienced a golden age then a decadence and today this micronation is reborn.

the micronation is a direct democracy where everything is voted on by the people through a plebicite.

Ketonia recognizes most micronations that request it without having direct diplomacy with them except for the Bordan which has an embassy.

Etymology

Ketonia is a name given spontaneously by the first members of the discord, probably inspired by "Kepta" and "Keptonie" the name in the local language is "Ketonie". Its citizens are known as Ketonyans

History

Pre-Ketonian history

in June 2021 Kepta starts posting a series of videos profiling the various micronations in France on his Tiktok account (Principauté de Laàs, Surland, République Libre du Saugeais, etc...). The 26th of June 2021, Kepta confides in his video about Surland that he plans to found a micronation: "The principality of Surland, as it's called in full, is a bit special, because it proves that anyone can found a micronation T...] and, in fact, that's what I plan to do, but I'll keep you posted on that. The desire to set up a micronational project was born of the realisation of these videos, but also of a telephone call with Jacques Pedehontaà, mayor of Laàs and founder of the "Principality of Laàs", and above all the clear and warm enthusiasm of the public.

Ketonian history

The Foundation

In the early days of July 2021, precisely on the 3rd,Kepta posts a video officially announcing the imminent creation of the "Micronation" (as yet unnamed). Kepta then put out a call for ideas, asking viewers what they thought would be the best platform for bringing together people who wanted to take part in the project. July 4th the micronation have a name "Micronation of Ketonia" was founded, and a dedicated discord server was created on the same day. 4 July thus becomes the date of the Ketonian bank holidays (which coincides with those of the United States of America, although this is purely coincidental).

The Great Growth

On July 5th, the day after the formal establishment, Kepta announces on his tiktok channel that he "has created a micronation", and invites anyone wishing to contribute ideas to join the server discord. We also learn that several flag proposals are being debated, and that this is not an 'RP' (Roleplay) server as is common on this network. It is via this discord server, of which he is administrator, and via his tiktok account, that he will communicate on micronational advances. By August 16, 2021 In a third video, still on kepta's account, we learn that the micronation is called "La Kétonie" (the name given by members of the Discord sponta- neously), and that its motto is "Fierté, Ardeur, Paix! The flag is presented, and the tiktokeur announces that: "Now we're going to get down to business... >> He reveals the existence of Ketonian identity cards, and that although they have no official value, they can be obtained by applying by email on discord (it is strongly advised against revealing your true identity). As a result, the server will have over 4,000 members. More than 60 people will receive official Ketonian nationality. In September 2021, on the 5th: As life in the Ketonian community develops, Kepta invents a language for the micro nation, "Ketonian". This language appears on the identity card, and he creates new words inspired by the pseudonyms of discord members. Today, there is almost no trace of this language or how it works. At the same time, Ketonian art was developing, and groups such as the "FC camion" were being formed, although no official political system was really in place in Ketonia. Kepta did not see himself as the "president" or " "leader" of Ketonia, but rather as the "Kanël" ("founder" in Ketonian). He insisted on not politicising the micro-nation too much and on focusing on artistic creation for the time being. The 29th of September 2021: A Ketonian Esport team is created to take on the Bordan and Alèmia micronations in a chess competition. The latter are allies of Ketonia. This friendly confrontation is never played, due to a crisis.

The collapse

on October 5, 2021 Ketonia discord server is totally destroyed. Its thousands of members are banned and its chat rooms deleted. The perpetrator of this attack is a member of the moderation team who wants to avenge his former colleagues who lost their jobs after behaving inappropriately towards an administrator. This was a very serious event for the micronation, with most members unable to understand why they no longer had access to the server. All the documentation of its language and much of the art created by its community has been lost forever. The person responsible for this destruction later apologised to Kepta, but Ketonia has not forgotten. On November 24, 2021 The server reopens with greater security, but sees a drastic fall in activity. Kept demotivated, Kepta stopped communicating about the micronation and left the project on stand-by for a very long time.

The Renaissance

on April 19, 2023 Kepta turns its attention back to Ketonia and decides to symbolise its rebirth by changing the dominant colour of the flag (from red to turquoise). The decision was taken without a referendum, and was justified by the fact that the old flag was too similar to the coats of arms of fascist regimes. Turquoise is also a rare colour on a flag that evokes few, if any, existing causes.On the same day, a new video was posted on the kanël tiktok account showing him setting up a Kétonie embassy on a rock in the town of Saint-Lunaire (Brittany), brandishing the turquoise flag. He explains that, as he cannot legally claim land on French soil, he is reclaiming the rights of the flora and fauna present on "Le rocher des kétoniens" (The Ketonian's rock) (the right to be protected, the right to live...). It is also a video designed to raise public awareness of the importance of conserving the biosphere of Brittany's coastline.

The Present Times

Fast-forwarding to December 20, 2023 An instagram account dedicated to the "Kétonie Micronation" is created, @ketonie.micronation. This is where all communication about the project will take place, to the detriment of the dis- cord ... Kepta is the owner of the account, but he is not the leader of Ketonia. The account is used to share Ketonian art and all information about it.

Ketonian Culture

The Flag

The flag of Ketonia has a 3/2 ratio. It has a turquoise (formerly red) background, two non-rectilinear white and black stripes and three white 6-pointed stars. Its meaning is debated. Interpretations are free, but the 6-pointed stars are thought to symbolise anonymity (in reference to the 6 letters in the word "mask"). The white and black stripes echo the artistic passion moving from left to right. It is the large star at the top of the flag that proudly traces the trajectory of this ardour. The turquoise background was chosen to evoke the peace and pride of Ketonia. It is the main colour of the Micronation, being a rare and rather unique colour found on very few existing flags.

National Animal

The national animal chosen by the Ketonian people is the fox. A symbol of mischief and intelligence, it is often depicted with a turquoise coat.

The Currency

The currency of the Micronation of Ketonia is the "Kéton". It is not a cryptocurrency and has no real stock market or monetary value. In fact, not every citizen can freely create a Ketonian note according to the official rules. The value of the note is always 1 Kéton (or "IK"), and it is above all a space for free artistic expression. Its value lies in the pride the artist feels in creating it, its beauty and its symbolic or emotional importance. As such, Ketonia does not print tickets for commercial purposes and remains free and unrestricted within the rules for ticket creation.

The Language

The majority language in Ketonia is French, due to its creation and evolution in an almost exclusively French-speaking environment. However, "Ketonian" is a language created by Kepta in September 2021. It is an extinct language, traces of its grammar or lexicon having disappeared during the Great Collapse. We do know, however, that it was pronounceable by a French-speaking e with a few exceptions. Words were created as they went along, inspired by the nicknames of discord members. Some phrases and words have survived the passage of time.

Politics and government

Ketonia is a republic with a direct democracy, and elements such as the name, the national animal and the flag are decided by referendum. There are no political parties and no politically oriented projects since they are not in the artistic spirit of the micronation.

Administrative divisons

Ketonia has no territory of its own. It does not seek to conquer, claim or appropriate land (this is illegal and contrary to its principles). However, a Ketonian embassy has been self-declared by Kepta on a rock on one of the beaches of the town of Saint-Lunaire (Brittany). This 'Ketonian Rock' belongs to France, but Kepta reclaims the right of the flora and fauna on it to exist, to live and to be protected.

The Ketonians proposed several other territories to "claim" in Brittany but this was quickly abandoned since it was not in the spirit of the micronation
