Hongcuntian (Chinese: 洪寸田) is an internet micronation that does not claim any real territorial sovereignty. Instead, it is a completely internet based virtual community founded by a Chinese person under the pseudonym Wang Jianguo, with its members mainly coming from internet users within China. In fact, it is more based on deductive activities, for which it firmly adheres to the laws and regulations of government authorities, rather than promoting separatism.
Etymology
The name of Hongcuntian is a fictional name with no actual etymology. However, the official government of the country has drafted a definition for this country's name. In Chinese, "hong" means flood, "cun" means small, and "tian" represents cultivated land. Therefore, combining these three words together can be understood as small farmland, which was formed after a flood.
This name is considered to be named based on the topography of the founder's hometown, although the country is based on the internet and has no real territory. However, because the "cunt" in the word "Hongcuntian" has a vulgar connotation in English slang, there are many who feel that this damages the country's reputation. Although the country has yet to change the country's English name in order to avoid the country being associated with this pejorative.
