The history of Blazetopia refers to the chronological development of the Republic of Blazetopia and the land it currently encompasses. It begins with the nation’s foundation in 2019 as the Republic of Morticia, envisioned as a dictatorship inspired by the government of the Republic of Molossia.

Blazetopia's history timeline in 2021

Blazetopia’s historical narrative is marked by key phases, including the Mortician Republic, the Balzian Colonization, the Blazetopian Civil War, the Jucheist Republic of Blazetopia, the (Dictatorial) Republic of Blazetopia, the founding of the ATO Organization, and the Dominion under Renderfeit following the establishment of the Sovereign Principality of Blazetopia. Its early development focused on being one of the founding members of ATO. Over time, Blazetopia has experienced many events during the pandemic in 2020-2022 and emerged as a prominent player in the micronational community.

Mortician Republic

Blazetopia was founded in 2019 by Jhurysse Magtoto during a vacation in Cavite, Philippines, as he celebrated the New Year. While bored, he watched a YouTube video titled "Top 10 Smallest Countries in the World" and discovered Sealand and Molossia, which had populations ranging from 7 to 27 at the time. Amused by the concept, he imagined the Philippines invading these micronations. This curiosity led him to further research and realize that these entities were micronations. After returning to his hometown in Pampanga, Magtoto decided to create his own nation, founding the Republic of Morticia.

Initially, he declared himself president, with his room as the nation’s only territory and stuffed animals as citizens. Over time, he built a postal service, a military base, and even a bank, all within his room. However, after a period of inactivity, Morticia was dissolved, and Magtoto shifted his focus to vlogging, starting a channel called BlazeFire II.

Months later, Magtoto discovered the Countryballs and Mapping Community, where he met Nano Mapping and Carl Miguel Victa. He became increasingly interested in mapping and countryballs, abandoning his vlogging career to create a new channel, Blaze Mapping. During this time, he grew frustrated with Carl Victa's frequent slogan, "Be Balzian!", and began investigating Victa’s micronation, the Republic of Balzi. This discovery sparked his return to micronationalism, leading to the re-establishment of Morticia—now informally known as Black Morticia—before finally renaming it Blazetopia.

Balzian Era

Balzian Colonization

The Balzian Colonization Era began in early July 2020 when Jhurysse Magtoto, leader of the then Republic of Black Morticia, introduced his nation to President Carl Miguel Victa of Balzi. During their discussions, Carl proposed that Black Morticia could benefit from becoming a Balzian colony, offering development and support to strengthen the nation. After deliberation, Jhurysse agreed, marking the start of a month-long colonization under Balzian oversight.

During this period, Balzi introduced reforms and systems that influenced Blazetopia’s governance and culture. These changes included shaping its identity as a republic, reflecting Balzi’s own structure. The colonization was widely supported by Blazetopians, and propaganda efforts by Jhurysse promoted cooperation and solidarity with their colonizers.

As the agreed term of colonization neared its end, Jhurysse advocated for Blazetopia’s independence. After some negotiation, Balzi granted Blazetopia its freedom on July 30, 2020. This day, known as the "Saturday of July" by Blazetopians, marked the official establishment of the Republic of Blazetopia. The peaceful transition solidified a strong bond between the two nations and laid the foundation for Blazetopia’s modern governance.

The Blazetopian Civil War

After Blazetopia gained independence from Balzi on June 30, 2020, internal divisions quickly arose. Jhurysse Magtoto, seeking to establish a dictatorial government, recruited three cousins from Yantorlo City (then called Yantorlo Front) to help manage the country. However, two of these cousins, Yniego and Val (aliases used to protect their privacy), opposed the idea of a dictatorship and rebelled, forming South Blazetopia.

The conflict began in early August 2020, when North Blazetopia (led by Jhurysse and cousin Evo) launched a military offensive against South Blazetopia. The war was brief, lasting only a few days (between August 1-5), though it is unclear whether it lasted exactly five days. Some sources claim it lasted that long, but the conflict involved a quick attack on Yantorlo Front, the capital of South Blazetopia. The North surrounded the city within minutes, leading to the South's swift surrender. Remarkably, the conflict saw no casualties.

Following the war, the entire country dissolved, and Blazetopia was unified under North Blazetopia. At that time, the country consisted of five regions:

North Blazetopia controlled:

  • Gestro Border (now Gestro)
  • Black Nanosia (modern-day Casdrei)
  • The capital city of Valsia (Jhurysse Magtoto's house)

South Blazetopia controlled:

  • Swampy Ruins (now Tendenilia)
  • Yantorlo Front (now Yantorlo City), the capital.

Despite the rebellion, Jhurysse chose to forgive his cousins and welcomed them back into the fold. Yniego was appointed Prime Minister and General of the Great Army of Blazetopia, Val became General of the Blazetopian Marine Corps, and Evo was made Admiral of the Blazetopian Coast Guard. This marked the formation of the Armed Forces of Blazetopia, an institution that would play a pivotal role in the nation’s future.

The Jucheist Era (2020)

The Jucheist Era began shortly after the Blazetopian Civil War, when Jhurysse Magtoto considered adopting the Juche ideology for Blazetopia. At the time, he believed Juche symbolized independence, thinking it meant "we can do it on our own." During the Balzian Colonization, Jhurysse created the Blazetopian Party, which would later evolve into the modern Blazetopian Nationalist Party, the ruling and largest political party in Blazetopia.

During this time, the Flag Debate took place. Jhurysse and President Nathan, the leader of the now-defunct Republic of Nanosium, began designing a flag for the new Jucheist Republic of Blazetopia. The debate involved many changes and revisions before they ultimately settled on the final design. Jhurysse drew inspiration from a black pillow with five white stripes he had in his room. The final flag featured a black background with five white stripes, a red star, a black-and-white border, and the Juche torch at the center. This design symbolized the formation of the Jucheist Republic of Blazetopia.

Blazetopia quickly engaged in diplomatic relations, forming its first alliance with the now-defunct Key-West Ziberland on August 7, 2020. However, Renderfeit signed a diplomatic treaty with Blazetopia but cut ties shortly after, following AMPI’s classification of Blazetopia as a category zero micronation. Tensions between AMPI and Balzi were also starting to grow, which would later play a significant role in Blazetopia’s history.

On August 30, 2020, Blazetopia expanded into the southwest, creating the Province of Habas (modern-day Silvanez).

Rejection of Juche (September 3, 2020)

On September 3, 2020, Jhurysse Magtoto officially rejected the Juche ideology at exactly 3:05 pm, realizing it was unsuitable for Blazetopia due to its communist nature. This marked a turning point in the nation's history, as all Juche-related elements were removed from Blazetopia’s identity.

One of the most significant changes was the redesign of Blazetopia's flag. The Juche torch at its center was replaced with the Philippine sun, symbolizing a fresh start and a shift away from Juche.

This new flag continues to represent Blazetopia to this day, signifying the nation's departure from the Jucheist Era and the beginning of a new ideological direction.

The Dictatorial Era (1st Golden Years)

Political Restructuring and Military Dictatorship

On 4 September 2020, Blazetopia officially transitioned into a military dictatorship under Jhurysse Magtoto. This was after the rejection of the Juche ideology, marking a shift in the country’s political direction. Jhurysse consolidated power, granting himself absolute control over the political and military apparatus of the country. His cousins, Yniego, Val, and Evo, were appointed to significant roles within Blazetopia's government and armed forces, ensuring loyalty to the new regime.

Blazetopia also expanded its territory on 10 September 2020, claiming Block-158 (B158), later renamed Maloria. This marked the second territorial expansion of Blazetopia, which would later become significant in the country's development. B158 became known as a highly secretive area, akin to an “Area 51” for Blazetopia.

Formation of ATO and Diplomatic Engagements

On 18 September 2020, the Nanozitopia Alliance was disbanded, and the Accande Terrie Ornindo Organization (ATO) was formed, which included nations such as Nanosium, Balzi, and Otto Grik. As a founding member, Blazetopia aimed to strengthen its diplomatic presence in the region. Jhurysse Magtoto was appointed Chairman of ATO, further solidifying Blazetopia's influence.

This was also a time of national pride for Blazetopia. On 20 September 2020, the first flag-waving ceremony was held in Yantorlo City, where the black-and-white striped flag was raised, symbolizing national unity and strength. Alongside this, Blazetopian Entertainment and TV News (BETV) was established to cover national events and promote Blazetopia’s image abroad.

Challenges and Expansion

Martial Law in Yantorlo City

On 10 October 2020, Supreme Leader Jhurysse Magtoto declared Martial Law in Yantorlo City at 4:10 PM to prevent any potential coups. He stated, "I will declare martial law to protect my military activities and maintain control in Yantorlo City."

The military was deployed to ensure stability, with Yniego overseeing operations. Jhurysse emphasized the declaration was necessary to "save my beloved Yantorlo City."

Blazetopia’s Renaming and Subsequent Restoration

On 23 September 2020, Blazetopia was briefly renamed Blazetopium in an effort to modernize the country’s identity. However, the name proved unpopular both among citizens and foreign partners. On 18 October 2020, Jhurysse Magtoto publicly tore up the document that legalized the renaming, effectively restoring Blazetopia as the country’s official name.

Blazetopia’s territorial expansion continued on 21 November 2020, with the creation of Valdiwang Province in Cavite, marking the country’s furthest territorial extension at the time.

Political Reforms and Legal Developments

By 31 December 2020, Jhurysse Magtoto introduced his first law, which granted limited rights to Blazetopia's citizens, signaling a shift toward governance and legal reforms. The following month, BETV announced that Blazetopia had transitioned into a Benevolent Dictatorship on 11 January 2021, signaling an official change in governance that maintained Jhurysse’s control while appearing more open to citizens' needs.

Consolidation of Power and Military Restructuring

Purge of Dissidents and Military Reorganization

From 10 January 2021 to 13 January 2021, Proclamation No. 1 was issued by Jhurysse Magtoto, declaring a purge of any citizens who labeled Blazetopia as a communist state. As part of this purge, one citizen was arrested and had their citizenship revoked.

At the same time, Blazetopia underwent significant military restructuring. Under Law and Enforcement Act No. 1, the Blazetopian Army and Blazetopian Coast Guard were disbanded, replaced by the newly created Ministry of Defense. This new body oversaw the newly restructured Blazetopian Marine Corps, the National Security Department, and the Blazetopian Secret Services, ensuring tighter control over national security.

Diplomatic Setbacks and Refocusing on ATO

Diplomatically, Blazetopia faced tensions with the AMPI (Association of Micronations in the Philippine Islands). Despite attempts to join AMPI between September 2020 and November 2020, Blazetopia was eventually expelled due to internal issues, including Jhurysse’s immature behavior and a failed espionage attempt against AMPI on behalf of ATO. Despite this, Blazetopia remained committed to its role within ATO, where it continued to maintain positive relations with all member nations.

The End of the 1st Golden Years

By early 2021, the initial momentum began to slow down, particularly as Jhurysse found himself less connected with his cousins. While they had been active in the early stages of Blazetopia, they became less involved in the micronation, marking a shift in the political and social dynamics of the country. The 1st Golden Years officially came to an end, signaling a transition into a new phase in Blazetopia's history. Although the country had achieved significant progress diplomatically and militarily, the political climate began to shift, and the regime's earlier enthusiasm waned.

Despite this, the 1st Golden Years remain one of the most important periods in Blazetopia's history, characterized by rapid political changes, territorial expansion, and increased diplomatic activity, despite the challenges faced along the way.
