Esplanada, officially Esplanadian Republic (Portuguese): República Esplanadense is a virtual micronation fictitiously localized in the South America, fictionally located in the current territories of Panama and Galápagos Islands, but de facto builded in Minecraft. Shares land borders with the country of United River to the north and the territory of Liberdade to the east. It was spun off from United River and is currently one of its largest economic partners. The country experiences a variety of climates, ranging from deserts, savannahs, to mountains and glaciers in the southwest of the country. Nova Imperatriz is it capital and its largest city is the island of Ivituruí.

In fact, Esplanada is a federal parliamentary republic, formally being a constitutional monarchy between 1826 and 2019, undergoing a plebiscite in 2019 after demonstrations calling for change to the republic by force majeure. The results were more than 70% for the republic. Currently its president is Beatriz "Bia" Axolote, elected in 2022, and its prime minister is Renato Cascalho, leader of the largest party LPP and chosen by him in 2023. The Esplanadense parliament is made up of 60 deputies, who meet at the Palácio dos Eucaliptos, in Nova Imperatriz. Elections take place every 6 months, with an interval of 1 year for municipal and state/federal elections. In the country, re-election is allowed, but only once in the case of presidents.

Esplanada currently has several relationships with minecraft countries and micronations, and is currently affiliated with SDP (Societé des Pays). The economy is stabilized and currently several raw materials are discovered within the country, such as ores and oil. The country provides universal and free health care, free access to education and housing, due to various programs made by the government.

History

Around the 1800s, peasants from the village of Harena (present-day Belavista) began to organize for their independence from the Republic of United River, to which they belonged.

After several small guerrillas around the city, the government came to terms with the protesters and at the end of 1825 the city of Harena gained its independence, becoming the Independent State of Harena. Shortly thereafter however, in 1826, a monarchical coup deposed the peasant leader, and took over the village, becoming the Harena Empire, which later became the Esplanadian Empire. Its first emperor was Augustus I, who established trade lines with other countries but distanced himself from United River for futile reasons. During its early years, the Empire consolidated its power and expanded its territory through military conquests and diplomatic negotiations.

In the 1860s, the Empire faced a political and social crisis that culminated in the Abolition of Slavery in 1888. This measure, although it was a milestone in the country's history, left a large portion of the black and mixed-race population in precarious living conditions and without access to basic resources such as education and health.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Empire underwent a period of modernization and industrialization, which generated significant economic growth. However, this development also brought social problems, such as the concentration of income and the exclusion of the poorest sections of the population. During the first half of the 20th century, the Empire was indirectly involved in the two world wars, even though it did not fight in the war, but nevertheless suffered serious political crises, including coups d'état and pro-American authoritarian regimes.

In the 1980s, the country began a redemocratization process that resulted in the election of popular and reformist governments in the following decade. In the 2000s, the Esplanadense Empire experienced a period of economic growth and political stability, which allowed for significant advances in areas such as education, health and social rights. However, this development has also been marred by corruption scandals and persistent inequalities.

On November 19, 2022, the Esplanadense Republic officially announced the peaceful annexation of the country of Nova Lagoa, a small island state located in the Pacific Ocean. The decision was taken after years of negotiations between the two governments and had the support of the population of Nova Lagoa, who saw the union with the Esplanadense Republic as an opportunity for economic and social development.

2019 referendum

At the end of 2019, the Esplanadense Empire faced a wave of popular demonstrations demanding profound political and economic changes. The protests were prompted by an increase in social inequality, widespread corruption and growing political polarization. In the midst of this unrest, Emperor Henry III was assassinated under mysterious circumstances. The assassination further aggravated the country's political and social instability and increased demands for reforms.

Among the protesters' demands was the holding of a plebiscite to decide whether the Empire should become a republic. After weeks of intense protests, the government bowed to popular pressure and agreed to hold the plebiscite in November 2019. On polling day (November 8th), the republic won with 70% of the votes in favour, while only 20% voted for the continuation of the Empire. The plebiscite result was widely celebrated by protesters, who saw it as a historic victory for democracy and social justice.

After the result, the imperial government announced that it would respect the decision of the people and after poll day, it made its transition to a republic, with the president of the Esplanadense Parliament as its 1st president. The transition process was marked by conflicts and political tensions. Many members of the imperial elite opposed the change and tried to obstruct the transition process, fearing that they would lose their privileges and political influence. In the called elections, the then emperor of the country, Felipe Vitarella (Felipe I), was elected, in a historic vote, by the LPP (Liberdade para o Povo) party with 52% of the votes, defeating the candidate of the PT (Partido Trabalhista), Lívia Fernandez.

Politics and government

Esplanada is a parliamentary federal republic, the head of government being the prime minister, who is elected by the largest party with seats in the Esplanadense Parliament. The president of the republic of Esplanada, although elected by popular vote, is symbolic in character and has powers only in cases of extreme urgency, in addition to being able to dissolve parliament and take over the country until new deputies take office.

The Esplanadian Parliament is the country's central power, made up of 60 deputies who meet at the Palácio dos Eucaliptos, in the capital Nova Imperatriz. Deputies are chosen by popular vote each year. The country's legal power meets at the Palace of Winds, and is the highest legal authority in the entire country.

Currently, Esplanada has 2 states, which are called departments. The department of Belavista, located in the continental area of the country, is made up of 3 cities: Belavista (capital), Nova Imperatriz and Lírio do Vale. The department of Ivituruí and Outer Islands is made up of 2 cities, Ivituruí (capital) and Estácio. Each city is administered by a mayor and municipal legislature, who are elected every 1 year.
