Etymology
Chepiwanoxet, known also in earlier sources, such as A Key into the Language of America as Chepinoxet, is a Narragansett word. It may be derived from chepi 'separated,' -wan (particle) -ok 'little' -sett 'place', meaning perhaps 'Little Separated Place,' or possibly 'Little Place at the Northeast,' compare chepewéssin 'northeast wind.'[1]
Dispute
Faltrian sovereignty over the District of Chepiwanoxet is disputed by the Roscami Federation which alleges that the Commonwealth of Faltree and Faltrian sovereignty over Chepiwanoxet is illegitimate and illegal. Hunt Powell traveled to Chepiwanoxet on 21 August 2023 in order to raise a red banner, affirming that Faltree had practical control over the territory.
The dispute intensified after the Roscami government issued a decree calling for the destruction of Faltree in March 2024.
