The Democratic Socialist Republic of Apisia, more simply known as Apisia (/əˈpiːʒə/ or /əˈpiːzijə/), is a micronation in Oceania. On 26 May 2022, the republic was formed after the dissolution of the monarchy. Its current national flag and emblem were designed and adopted by the Duchy of Apisia on 14 October 2021, and were ratified as national symbols on 26 May 2022. The Democratic Socialist Republic of Apisia is divided into municipalities, each of which contains local direct democratic councils which legislate within their jurisdictions.
The Democratic Socialist Republic of Apisia is officially a 'horizontally-organised delegative democratic republic'. The government is directly subservient to the will of the people through delegative democracy, but governmental organisations exist to keep and protect legislation, to represent the nation internationally, and to provide a forum for democracy. The two most prominent organisations are the Apisian Institute for Democracy (AID), which regulates democratic processes and keeps legislation, and the Apisian National Council (ANC), which represents the nation internationally and provides a framework for budgeting as well as welfare and housing projects. Both organisations are answerable to direct vote and hold no special veto powers.
The Democratic Socialist Republic of Apisia strives to maintain cooperative relations with other micronations. The nation deems itself pacifistic.
Etymology
The name Apisia is derived from the genus of the honey bee, Apis, which reflects the land's traditional bee-keeping culture, which has since become extinct.
