Libertas (/lʲiːˈbɛrt̪äːs̠/), officially The Democratic People's Republic of Libertas, is a self-proclaimed republic and sovereign state. Its main territory is located in the U.S state of Ohio. The administration is centralized in its primary territory.
Since the establishment of the Democratic People's Republic of Libertas in 2022, Libertas has been a Unitary one-party socialist republic. Libertas declared independence from the United States on June 1, 2022 with the provisional government being led by Devin A. Kneisel before the current system was implemented.
Libertas is a founding member of the intermicronational organization, the Unified Socialist Micronational.
Etymology
Libertas is the Latin word for freedom.
History
On June 1, 2022, A group of disheveled Ohioan workers declared their independence as Libertas and began a provisional government, setting the outline for the new nation. The provisional government, spearheaded by Devin A. Kneisel and Carter M. Thomas, lasted about a month and during this period, the outline for the current government was created. On July 1, 2022, The Democratic People's Republic of Libertas was declared. On July 4, 2022 a Libertasian enclave was declared in the north-east area of the U.S state of Colorado.
Politics and government
Libertas is a unitary Marxist-Leninist republic. Under the constitution, the Communist Party of Libertas (CPL) asserts its role in all branches of the country's politics and society. The President is the elected head of state and the commander-in-chief of the military, as well as performing executive functions and state appointments and setting policy.
The general secretary of the CPL performs numerous key administrative functions, controlling the party's national organization. The Vice-president is the head of government, presiding over a council of ministers composed of five deputies and the heads of ministries and commissions. Only political organizations affiliated with or endorsed by the CPL are permitted to contest elections in Libertas.
The Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) is the unicameral state legislature composed of 50 members. Headed by a chairman, it is superior to both the executive and judicial branches, with all government ministers being appointed by members of the SPA. The Supreme People's Court of Libertas, headed by a chief justice, is the country's highest court of appeal, though it is also answerable to the SPA. Military courts possess special jurisdiction in matters of state security.
Foreign relations
The Democratic People's Republic of Libertas has made little contact with the outside world, adhering to an isolationist policy in its provisional government period but as of July 2022, it has begun initiating diplomatic relations with other socialist states. The DPRl's current foreign policy is aimed at ensuring international conditions are favorable for building communism in the DPRL, safeguarding the state interests of the republic, supporting the struggle of peoples for national liberation and social progress, preventing wars of aggression, achieving universal and complete disarmament, and consistently implementing the principle of the peaceful coexistence of states with different social systems.

The Libertasian People's Army (LPA) is the military and national defense force of Libertas which was formed in coordination with its declaration of independence.

The main territory of Libertas is located in Southern Ohio in former plains areas. The DPRL is located in a sub-urbanized area near the city of Cincinnati.
