The Democracy of Anthea (commonly called Anthea) is an American micronation founded in 2021. It has territories in different regions of the United States and has citizens scattered in two main areas. First dreamed up in 2020, the President and Secretary of State were the original citizens. Since then, The Democracy of Anthea has grown quickly.
Every year, on the third Monday of January, elections for all offices are held. Twice every year officeholders are required to make a speech about their progress and plans.
The Democracy of Anthea is committed to collaborating with democratic and ecologically minded micronations to support and aid each other.
Etymology
The name Anthea belongs to the Greek Goddess on wetlands and flowers, as well as human love. Originally the name was going to be Myrica, after the family name of the wax myrtle tree. However, prior to the constitutional ratification, the current name, Democracy of Anthea, had been adopted.
History
Even in the short lifespan of this micronation, two coups have been attempted, both by the same person. More details can be found on the Anthean website. Elections have been held only twice, due to the 2022 elections being postponed.
Politics and government
Every two years elections are held for all offices. Officers include President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Communications, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Trade and Commerce, Chief of Expeditions, and Secretary of Science and Education. Each officer has a distinct role and function in Anthea, listed in the Anthean constitution.
Foreign relations
The Democracy of Anthea does not currently have any allies but is more than willing to recognize micronations upon request. Partnerships with other democratic micronations are welcome.
Military
Despite the coups, the military is limited to theory and the national education center.
Geography and climate
The two main areas (Northern Territories and Southern Territories) are composed of land the Anthean citizens have claimed and hold. The Southern Territories are all concentrated in North Carolina, USA, while the Northern Territories are spread across lower Michigan and Wisconsin.
Economy
The economy is virtually nonexistent. However, the Secretary of Trade and Commerce may soon be collaborating with the President and Secretary of State to change that.
Culture and media
Education and Science are taken seriously in Anthea. The national education center has citizens teach other citizens about their areas of expertise, and the Secretary of Science and Educations is creating a log of plants in Anthean territories and is noting their uses, which will soon be published in The Snapdragon, Anthea's national newspaper, which is run by the Secretary of Communications. The Snapdragon is a weekly publication whose name has nothing to do with the flag.
