The Confederation of Antarctic Islands, more commonly known as The Arctic Islands, is a micronation comprising of 51 uninhabited Antarctic islands. In April of 2020, Connor Woodson, along with 3 other members of state, formally declared sovereignty in the name of 51 Antarctic islands, all of which have no human populations. The islands are separated into 51 different Antarcities, the largest unit of land within the Confederation. The people of the Arctic Islands are fairly friendly, and will usually come to inspect you. This is totally normal, as the population of the islands is almost entirely Arctic Animals.

The politics of the Arctic Islands are a bit complex. For the actual 51 Islands, only 1 is under direct parliamentary control, which is the capital Island of Deception, with the Confederation's capital in Telefon Bay. The politics in Deception are fairly simple, with the Arctic Council issuing the laws and regulations of the islands, and the Arctic Cabinet interpreting and adapting the laws to the Constitution's standards. A separate "Diplomatic Converge of the Arctic Confederation" is used to manage diplomatic recognition, international events, and micronational tensions. The Converge has a policy of Island defense, and can activate it in the event of foreign invasion, however it has never been initiated. For the other 50 islands, the Confederation issues means of "Autonomous Arcticism", which states that the 51 Antarcities, the Arctic wildlife controls all government policies. Due to this, many are confused on the means of how to obtain citizenship, making it a major issue for the Confederation.

The Confederation of Antarctic Islands has a very open-to-all diplomatic doctrine. Any diplomatic recognition requests are usually accepted. However, if an instance springs up in which a micronation is either Marxist-Leninist or Fascist, the Confederation will place them on a black-list, of which they will stay until they hold a governmental change in their state. As said above, citizenship is a hard to acquire stature, due to the populous of the Islands. There are 2 ways to gain citizenship in the Confederation. You can either A. Apply for it under the official government sites of the Arctic Islands, or you must gain the acceptance of an Arctic animal. In terms of international relations, the Confederation is extremely happy to accompany anyone who wants to talk. To add to this, any ships that are found in need of repair or rescue are allowed to dock in any island if necessary. This has lead to the Confederation being one of the most highly-ranked friendly micronations.

Etymology

The name of the Confederation of Antarctic Islands is fairly self-explanatory. However, the etymology behind The Arctic Isles is lesser-known. In 1909, a ship called the SS Telefon, a Norwegian cargo ship, was beached within Telefon Bay, Deception Island after sustaining damage. The Penguins, who inhabited the island, came to greet the men. Rumors from relatives of the sailors state that the penguins "showered them in cuddles and gleefully brought their families and communities to see the humans."

A photo of the SS Telefon in 1912, 3 years after the ship was beached on Deception Island. It would be decommisioned a year later.

After this, the bay was officially named Telefon, and in honor of the penguins, the sailors of the SS Telefon gave them the designation of "The Antarctic Isles" in respect for the penguin's kindness.

History

The history of the Confederation started on April 14, 2020, when Connor Woodson, Nick Cerelli, Maddox Sebastian, and Hudson Veroba collectively agreed to declare official sovereignty of all 51 islands currently held by the Confederation today. 2 days, later the 4 sent a letter to the UN, letting them know of the Confederation's claims on the 51 islands. These have not been responded to as of now. A week later, the 4 formed the Arctic Council and Arctic Cabinet, with the Arctic Converge being formed a month later. These events are considered to be the country's entrance into sovereignty. These events are celebrated as "The Month of Snow" which is the nation's de-facto independence celebration. On July 16th of 2020, Connor Woodson formally began the first elections, of which the current party succeeded over all others. Over the next 2 years, the party began the planning of an Antarctic Empire behind Woodson's back. Finally, on November 18th, 2022, a coup was attempted by the opposition leader, Nikolai Petrovic. This attempt would later be crushed, and the 4 leaders remain in power to this day. On Decemeber 11th, the Antarctic Islands applied for membership within the Micronational Assembly, and are currently developing the nation for an application to the Antarctic Micronational Union.

Politics and government

The Confederation of Antarctic Islands is a federal-presidential-confederation, and due to the format of its politics, it cannot be anything else. In the Confederation, the government only has 1 island under direct control, (along with the base of government in Texas) while all others are under autonomous-arcticism. Making the government anything but a confederation would certainly break the micronation into fragments, which is why the political scene is so tense. Currently, there are 2 major parties. These parties are the Anarcho-Communist Arcticommunist Politcal Sphere, and the Democratic-Environmentalist Snow Party.

These parties have been at each other's throats ever since the failed coup, mainly because of Nikolai's connections with the Arcticommunist Sphere. However, the Arcticommunist's have slowly died down, and now sit at a minority of 13% approval rates (circa. 2021). However, with counterfeit bills, the Arcticommunist Party usually tries to bribe others to join their side.

The President, who works closely with both cabinets, has the right to veto and approve laws which come into his hand, but not before they are run through the Arctic Cabinet for approval or denial. The Arctic Council is responsible for the creation of laws and maintenance of elections. When the Council makes a law, the law is always supposed to comply with the people's wishes and the Articles of Law. If these laws do not comply with these requirements, they will be sent back for revisal. If they do, they are then sent to the President, who holds all power within the means of veto or acceptance. If the President is seen as irresponsible or is found in violation against the law, they are to run through the "Article of Impeachment" in which 5/6 of both houses must agree to impeach the ruling President. If this fails, a special trial will take place, in which the President will be investigated and given a verdict if they are found guilty of fraud and corruptness.

Law and order

Due to the inhabitants of the Antarctic Isles being composed of only animals, the only real law present is nature. The Animals that exist there are free to do as nature intended, as long as the species are not invasive. Judiciary symbols are not necessary, as no real human threat exists within the islands boundaries. Researchers know their moral laws, too, so the government doesn't bother them.

Foreign relations

The Confederation of Antarctic Islands holds good relations with all micronations of the world, and wishes to hold no stake in wars or conflicts any micronation may have. The Confederation was however a member of LENS, and actively co-operated with its members on economic issues across the LENS-sphere. Due to evidence which suggested the leader of LENS was bullying another micronationalist, the Confederation withdrew from the alliance on December 12, 2022. All nations can ask for recognition, except for Fascists or Marxist-Leninists. On February 20, 2023, the Confederation of Antarctic Islands officially joined the GUM as a full member, much to the approval of President Woodson.

Military

The military of the Confederation of Antarctic Islands is divided into 3 main branches. The largest one, The Federal Army of the Confederation of Antarctic Islands, consists of 10 active personnel. Most soldiers are armed with light arms or airsoft equipment, with their base being in the United States. The 2nd Branch is the Federal Navy of the Confederation of Antarctic Islands. The Navy has 2 active personnel, and one amphibious-boat, nicknamed the FNC Aurora. The 3rd Branch is the Federal Special Operations Unit of the Confederation of Antarctic Islands. The Special Forces currently has no active personnel. The Special Forces have one ski-battalion, of which a few are being trained to meet the needs of the Confederation. The Confederation of Antarctic Islands has only participated in 1 battle, in which a fishing boat collided with the FNC Aurora, prompting a 4 hour long close-quarters combat instance to occur. The Confederation managed to overpower the vessel, and it was discovered to be harboring members of the Antarcommunist Sphere. The owner of the boat had been assaulted the previous night, and had no stake in the battle. All crew-members were arrested, and deported to Chile a month later.

Geography and climate

Much of the Islands of the Confederation are usually extremely frigid. Temperatures, such as in Clarence Island, can reach below 0. In other instances, such as in Alexander Island, temperatures can make basic governmental practices impossible, with the snow being from 5-17 inches thick. The geography of the Islands is not very hospitable either. Many of the islands harbor large, dangerous mountains, such as in Half-Moon-Island, where a large mountain sits atop a peak overlooking much of the Confederation's other stakes near it. Despite this, the Confederation is one of the best places to go to if one wishes to see beautiful Arctic scenery. Many islands are also very good for awesome views of the populous of the Confederation.
