History
The newly independent Moniyan Kingdom decided to base its coat of arms and flag on the symbols used by the short-lived Moniyan Principality. These came into being after the Moniyan South renounced the Dutch protectorate. It existed as an independent polity from January to December 1790. Therefore, the Lion of England, stood out to represent the entire kingdom.
This is not without precedent. During the Dutch Revolt, the provinces that rebelled against the rule of King Philip II adopted a common seal in 1578 showing Leo Belgicus wearing a crown and wielding a sword and a series of arrows. The crown symbolizes sovereignty, the sword for the war against Spain and the arrows for harmony and unity among the rebellious provinces.
At first, the lions of the Dutch Duchy of Moniyan had a pale yellow or dark red coat color. It was only when most of Moniyan was recaptured by Spain in the 1580s and Moniyan was protected by Britain that the colors of the Moniyan lion became the ultimate target of the arm of the united British provinces.
