The City-State of Elevatia, commonly known as Elevatia, is a micronation in Central Europe comprising mostly of the same named city New Elevatia which is uniquely bordered by its neighbor Czech Republic not only on all its sides but also from up and down. However, the land of City-State of Elevatia also consists of its one exclave, located within the territory of the Czech Republic as well.
The City-State of Elevatia is a Diarchystic constitutional monarchy. It has two co-rulers, currently Lady Lucie and Lord Daniel who are also ruling the city of New Elevatia since its discovery and resettlement in a year 2021.
Since the nation is still very young and in a state of administrative changes The City-State of Elevatia holds no official foreign relationships for now.
History
The City-State of Elevatia’s history is not a long one. Before settling New Elevatia there was a brief conquest of the original elevatian land. Lady Lucie and Lord Daniel settled into a wild rural area in Central Bohemia they have come to call Annunte. There they battled and finally overthrew a tyrannical queen Vincúr, also called in the local folklore as The Hag. This act became known as the Liberation of Elevatia as after the victory they established the first city of Elevatia there. After that the poverty stricken area saw a new chapter in its existence that started with massive investments to the sorely inadequate infrastructure and administrative changes.
However, despite all the progress they have made there it was soon apparent that Annunte would simply not be able to support their vision of the proud and independent nation they have longed for. And so when unexpectedly the opportunity came to resettle to Lady Lucia's ancestral homeland they left the inhospitable wilderness in favor of the far more developed land with more possibilities. There a new city was founded, New Elevatia, named in honor of the original settlement. Soon after that The City-State of Elevatia was officially founded in 5 November 2021.
Government
The City-State of Elevatia is a diarchystic constitutional monarchy. That means that there are two co-rulers (forming diarchy or duumvirate) of a noble stature that are bound by the constitution. The rulers are titled as Lady and Lord, depending on the gender, and they hold all executive, legislative and judiciary powers. The diarchy is, however, not a requirement as the constitution states that anyone with a title of a Lady or a Lord are eligible for ruling, meaning there can be more or less rulers depending on a situation. These titles can be passed down the family line. In case of no eligible successor the monarch can be voted into office by an election of the Elevatian citizens. Titles Lady and Lord are for life unless voluntarily abdicated. Ladies and Lords are also free to delegate their powers to others as they deem necessary.
Despite being a monarchy The City-State of Elevatia is built on a principles of vast personal freedoms and rights that are guaranteed by the constitution.
Current rulers are Lady Lucie and Lord Daniel, founders of the city-state.
New Elevatia
New Elevatia is the capital of The City-State of Elevatia and also its only permanently settled city. As such it is the seat of its central authorities and houses all its administrative, residential and commercial capabilities.
Situated within the territory of modern Czech Republic and also located above its natural elevation the entire city is actually suspended in the air and thus bordered by Czech Republic not only from all its sides but also from above and below making this city completely enveloped by its bigger neighbor. New Elevatia currently has a population of 3 citizens.
The current state of the city was formed in late 2021. There was a previous infrastructure before, although without any prior claims for sovereignty. Earliest mentions speak about the first settlers populating the area in the second half of the 20th century, more precisely in the 70's, when the whole surrounding lands have also seen a development and population boom. The original settlement was ruled by Lady Lucia's ancestors as a modest yet bustling area with reasonable population that never actually strived for any official outside recognition. Unfortunately over the time its significance and size started to dwindle, eventually leading to near abandonment. This is when the current rulers, Lady Lucie and Lord Daniel heard the call. Their old settlement of original Elevatia was struggling to accommodate its population and so a decision was made for migration into the new area. There they laid the claim on what eventually became New Elevatia.
Virtual version of New Elevatia
On 13 June 2022 The City-State of Elevatia announced that its city of New Elevatia will now also exist in its bigger and idealized virtual form that is tied up to the real physical one. The virtual version of the city is used as a means for a better representation while keeping the real city secure and private.[1]
Administration
As The City-State of Elevatia's only city New Elevatia is the seat of all its central authorities and administrative capabilities.
New Elevatia is divided into 6 administrative districts - commercial, agricultural, warehouse, industrial and two residentials. Because of the city’s small nature most of the districts are connected via a single main road, only agricultural one remains outside of the main infrastructure.
Population
According to the early 2022 census the population of The City-State of Elevatia was 3 citizens. From 2021 to 2022 the population has seen a 50% population increase. After this recent period of population boom it is expected, according to prognoses, that the population will stabilize in the near future. However, there is also still some room for further population increase.
Economy
Elevatian economy is based on the use of its currency, the Elevatian Wan, which was introduced in 2023. Elevatian Wan works on a time = value principle. 1 Wan represents 1 minute of earned time the currency holder can exchange for a service or product that holds similar time value (example: For a banknote in nominal value of 10 Wans a person can buy 10 minutes long guided tour from another citizen). This system was implemented to keep the value of work egalitarian between all citizens and to protect the currency from a possibility of inflation.
Culture
The main cultural heart of The City-State of Elevatia is usually attributed to the center of the commercial district that has the only local cinema and cultural center. The city of New Elevatia also hosts numerous artworks by local and foreign artists that are publicly displayed in the streets. Well known example of that are the painted murals that can be found in residential Sharka District depicting nature and animals.
Languages
There are three official languages in The City-State of Elevatia. These are Czech, English and Squee.
Czech is the native language of the whole Elevatian population even though the language itself originates in the Czech Republic. It is a West Slavic language written in Latin script.
English is not a native language for the Elevatian population. However, given its international significance it is widely accepted and used for the official communication, especially with the outside world. English is West Germanic language written in Latin script.
Squee is a language native only to Elevatia. It is written in Latin script. Its unusual structure works with only a limited number of words - mainly skví (pronounced as squee), po (as in a word ponder), pů (poo), mí (mee), tůt (toot), dela (della), frůt (froot), mannah (ma-naah), and snejp (snape). There are sometimes other words included although they are rare. Many of these words have their roots in other languages like English, French or Czech. However, squee relies not only on these words for communication but also on the context and emotional emphasis put into the speech. This shows as seemingly random variations of these base words which for uninitiated can appear confusing. An Elevatian can look at you and say "Skví frůůt dela mííí" and the meaning will be different based on a circumstances and their disposition towards you. It can easily mean "I am glad to see you" as well as "I hope you will feel better." The best written example of the language can be seen in the constitution.
