Early History

The foundation of the Kingdom of Carolina originally started from the Federal Republic of French Carolana, started by Max McLeod in the summer of 2012. However, French Carolana quickly went defunct, due to a lack of organisation and lack of interest on President McLeod's part. It wasn't until June 2013 when the former president McLeod reformed a government, and the Democratic Republic of Carolina was formed.

For a period of two years, between June 2014 to August 2016, the DRC functioned fairly with a fair degree of stability. On 18. September 2015, the first national election was held to decide representatives of the House of Commons, the former governing body of the nation. The majority party elected happened to be the Monarchist Party of the Republic, with 76% of the vote.

After the second national election, in August 2016, the first skirmishes between so called "Republican" communists, and those in favor of a restoration of the royal House of Saxen began. By October 14, the Army of the People began assaulting the cities of the northern territories, such as Saint Anne, Hulderstadt, and Akita Island. Major dams, bridges, and highways were either destroyed or made inoperable. On November 1, 2016, the Monarchist army pushed all AOTP forces out of the provinces of Cressea, Hulernstart, and Saxeus. The River Hicks, the main river through the heartlands of Carolina, where the war stalemated into uneasy ceasefire. This continued for many weeks, and the war costs rose in the Capital District as the unpopular Republicans lost support in the South entirely.

In March 2017, however, the Monarchists met with the Republicans in the city of Saint Anne, in which the line of demarcation was drawn through the middle, to discuss a long term peace. The Republicans rebuked the sensible claims of peace and demanded the abdication of King Nicholas the First. This was seen to open back up hostilities, and on March 20, the Royal Carolinian Army marched over the Hicks and into a stunned northern lands.

On June 12, 2017, with the war all but lost for the Republicans, King Nicholas formally declared the Kingdom of Carolina as the rightful successor to the former D.R.C. With the guidance and mediation of the King of Hortania, HRH Damian I, the D.R.C. accepted defeat at 11.45 the following morning. The King and the House of Commons convened, allowing an autonomous Hulernstart to exist under the leadership of the People's Party of Carolina at 1200 hours the same day.

The Reign of Nicholas I

King Nicholas was crowned on June 24, 2017 at 12 'o'clock p.m. in the capital of Irenea, by the Archbishop of the Royal Carolinian Church, Reverend Tyler Watkins. A crowd of 25 watched the anointing occur, and the entire week following, was declared a national holiday. Almost immediately, the crises of running a nation recovering from a massive civil war fell upon His Majesty's shoulders. The nation was broken, and the need for a true, strong government was to be answered.

Benjamin Norris, a good friend of the King and politician, came into the scene with his establishment of the "Fair and Just Party," which gained massive popularity in the core provinces. Norris ran for the first Prime Minister of the Kingdom, and although Curtis Farraday, who led the popular National Front, was a close contender in the first election, held in September 2017, but lost by eleven votes to Norris, mostly after Norris' role in preventing escalation with the secession of the Republic of Perry, who saw the rise of His Majesty as a illegal way to secede from the nation. However, with Norris' Prime Ministry, war was inevitable with the hostile Perryeans, who on September 1, launched a military blitzkrieg into the province of Upper Saxeus.

His Majesty authorized the mobilisation of the Royal Army, at 1545 on September 1, and by 1730, a battle between infantry soldiers had erupted. For several days, the war escalated, with Perryean forces flanking the disorganised army in Ridgecrest by September 8. But, with the genius of MP Farraday, the General of the Army as well as parliamentary courtesan, the 2d Royal Infantry pushed straight up to the capital city of Perry, where the government capitulated on September 12, 2017. Perry as a sovereign state ceased to exist, and was put under military occupation.

The resettlement and rebuilding of the destroyed towns and districts began on February 16, 2018, by His Majesty's Royal Decree. A humanitarian, and active-duty soldier in the Royal Army, His Majesty was widely received along with his platoon across the nation, especially in the hard-hit provinces of Doure, Hulernstart, and Pine Ridge. Under his administration, the Department of Rivers and Waterways was established in March, 2018. The main goals of this move, desperately needed for the nation to recover, was to clean up and mend the principal rivers and waterways in Carolina, especially the River Hicks, the River Payne, and the River Opren.

The Diaspora and Socialist Coup

Following tensions in the old lands, it was the decision of His Majesty and His government to move the nation some 300 miles west to the historic homeland of the House of Saxen. On 12 April 2018 the Kingdom of Carolina was formerly established surrounding the United States city of Canton, North Carolina. Intermediately following, it was decided that the former political provinces down east would not suffice, and a new jurisdiction was established of 5 provinces initially. The Kingdom had its national election on 20 January 2019, and following mass protests and civil strife over the past six months, led to the Social Democratic Party of Carolina taking control of the National Assembly, and leading to a peaceful declaration of the "Carolinian Democratic Republic."

However, all was not well with the CDR, leading to massive protests just as had been under the reign of Nicholas I. Faced with mounting opposition, the CDR voted itself out of existence on 29. August 2019 by a margin of 9-1. Immediately following, Nicholas' brother, Alexander of Taube, accepted the throne. The CDR existed for only

Government

The Kingdom of Carolina is a parliamentary Christian kingdom, with a unicameral assembly representing the people and acts as a polity to prevent the disenfranchisement of rights to the common citizen. The leader of the Kingdom is His Majesty, the King, Alexander I. In accustom to the Rechtsgeschäfte or Articles of Law, the King is the final authority of the National Assembly, head of state and, in addition to the Prime Minister, the Hon. Lady Alana Dillard, the commander of the armed forces.

The National Assembly is seated in two places, the capital of Alexandria, de jure, and the de facto capital of Taubestadt. Each province is elected by one governing district, and ten members are elected to the Assembly. The National Assembly has total superiority over provincial law, which to some extent, unifies the nation with things such as traffic laws and education. The National Assembly also raises the Royal Carolinian Army, while the Ministry of State Security, or Stasec, is responsible for internal security and policing. .

Political Parties

The Kingdom of Carolina, even while in exile, had always leaned towards the right-wing of the political spectrum. With the rise of the monarchy and a stable democracy, full political parties were formed. Based on the 2017 General Election, these are the legal political parties in Carolina

NATIONAL FRONT; Alternate Right, monarchist, Christian conservative, anti-Socialist, nationalist stances

ROYALIST PARTY; Right wing, moderate, monarchist, total monarchy/abolishment of the National Assembly.

UNION FORCE OF CAROLINA; Centre, workers rights, republican, capitalist.

SAXEUS INDEPENDENCE PARTY; Left-Wing, Separatist, strong government, universal rights.

In the 2017 General Election, the National Front and the Fair and Just Party won a majority, with 68% by the Fair and Just and 25% being won by the National Front. The Royalist Party is a predominantly northern party, with strongholds in Sheffield and Surrey, winning 7% percent of the vote. The 2017 Election marked the first time the Union Force had ever gotten the qualifying 1% to be put on the ballot for election of candidates.

By the time of the 2019 General Election, the National Front had lost its complete stranglehold that had developed during its tenure as majority party in the National Assembly. The Social Democratic Party of Carolina, a newcomer hat embodies the spirit of the worker and the socialist brotherhood, won with nearly 86% of the vote, ousting incumbent PM, Benjamin Norris, and electing Taylor Reese as the General Secretary of the SDPC, and Alex McLeod as the successor of the King, the State Minister.

Following the collapse of the CDR in August 2019, new political parties were banned from organizing until the General Election of December 2019.
