Athenia is a country located near and surrounded by the city of Plattsburgh in the State of New York, United States. Originally known as Furyia, the country reformed and renewed its declaration of independence on May 2 of 2021 after a brief period of civil strife. One of the stated goals of Athenia is to improve on the failings of its predecessor country of Furyia and thus advance the interests of it's citizens. A young constitutional monarchy it is lead by an Emperor who oversees a series of democratic bodies that collectively form the country's government. The country claims the popular city of which most Athenians live, Plattsburgh. they also claim Crab island, in Lake Champlain. Additionally, the country lays claim to land in Antarctica (by virtue of not being a signatory to the Antarctic Treaty) and plans to arrange expeditions at an indeterminate point to cement the claim. Additionally, it has laid claim to Rockall island, the British still maintain military control and presence over the island for now. The constitution is not yet completed nor yet ratified. Athenia is a 5th world country accord to the Bloodsmythe-Tallini Classification System.
Athenian Government
The Athenian government is a Democracy in its own special way. Their is one title that is not voted for and the one person keeps it as long as they live or till they leave office themselves. This of course is Emperor. Mostly every position below him is voted upon, except for Military positions which ae voted on by higher up military reps (Exception for Head of Military which the people vote for). There are 3 Branches that rule the Athenian Government. The Legislative branch, Executive branch, and the Consuls. The legislative branch is made up of 3 groups. The first is the parliament. They make, destroy, and veto laws. They oversee and act on important decisions, but don't have the final say. The next group is the Senate. The Senate is in control of the economy. The last group is the citizen's assembly. The Citizens Assembly is a group made of of elected members that handle most diplomatic actions, take care of the people. The Executive branch is made up of the Emperor, HoM (Head of military), and many other leaders in Athenian Government. They control which bills become laws, major decisions, Important diplomatic actions, make amendments to the Constitution if needed, and keep the well being of Athenia great. The last branch is the consuls. The consuls are two powerful people. They control the courts, and are commanders in the Military. The Athenian Government currently only has 1 political party but is looking for more. This political party is the Imperial Athenian Party. No election has been held yet. the titles up for grabs in the next election are HoM, 2 senate seats, 6 assembly spots, and a minister of Defense. Some positions will be taken out and some will be added in the future. The election will start at 20 members.
Economy
The Athenian currency is called Taps. They are equivalent to 2 USD. The Senate Branch currently handles the Economy for the most part. While Tap has not taken a physical form and there is no shops they will begin that progress after the first election. For now Athenia is a Tax Haven.
