An "Appspot flag" is a flag created using Scrontch's Flag Designer (which is hosted at the URL flag-designer.appspot.com). The label is generally applied pejoratively.

Features

Scrontch's Flag Designer requires any flag to have a colour division, and allows for one 'overlay' (e.g. a saltire, a diamond, a Nordic cross) and one 'symbol'. Only black, white and predetermined shades of red, dark blue, green, yellow, orange and sky blue are available.

The twenty-three symbols available are a five-point star, German bird-looking thing, sun, shamrock, Tudor rose, Latin cross, Tree of Life, crescent moon, rook, flame, crossed swords, anchor, imperial crown, wheel, fleur-des-lis, laurel wreath, crossed keys, hammer and sickle, skull and crossbones, raised fist, lion rampant, a dove and a bull. The symbol must always be in one colour (even the Tudor rose) and always has an obvious black outline. A flag that has any of these symbols — especially obviously if it has a black outline — can be easily identified as an Appspot flag.
