Legislative elections were held in the Sovereign State of Åland on 5 October 2024. The election was between the ÅSP and TOP.[1] The ÅSP would win with 100% of the vote.[2]
Background
This would be the first election in the history of the State of Åland. Originaly the election was to take place on 15 October 2024.[3] There had been problems regarding a opposition party.[4] According to the official youtube channel, the problem was finding a second party to vote for to keep the election democratic and fair.[4] The TOP would be founded as a second party option untill a future party could exist.[4] The election would then be announced to take place on 5 October.[5][6] Originaly the presidential primaries where to take place on 5 October.[3]
Electoral system
The 2 members of the parliament are elected by proportional representation, with the seats in parliament is allocated using the d'Hondt method.[7]
Contesting parties
There were two parties in the election.[1] There was the Ålandic Independance Party (ÅSP) and the Temporary Opposition Party (TOP).[1] The TOP was a temporary opposition party to the ÅSP.[1] If the TOP won a seat, it would have gone to a future opposition party.[1]
Campaign
The ÅSP would be founded on 1 October and the TOP would be founded on 5 October.[8]
Results
ÅSP would win with 4 votes and 100% of the vote. The voter turnout was 100% since every citizen voted.
