A mini-independent country (Japanese: ミニ独立国 mini dokuritsu koku)—also known as an independent mini-nation (and shortened to mini-nation)—is a type of micronational entity and locality nation in Japan whereby a town or village declares itself an independent country for means of regional development. Almost all mini-independent countries are simulationist and serve to promote tourism.
