The Ombrian Army is the principal land warfare force of the Kingdom of Ombria. It is a part of the armed forces of Ombria, alongside the Royal Ombrian Navy and Royal Ombrian Air Force.

The army was established on 28 March 2024. Members of the army swear allegiance to the monarch as the commander-in-chief. The army is administered by the Chief of the General Staff and the Army Board.

The army is first and foremost an infantry force.

History

The Ombrian Army was established on 28 March 2024. It was the first branch of the armed forces to be established, so is the oldest military branch of Ombria.

Structure

The army is governed by the army board. Command structure in the army is hierarchical, with overall command resting with the Chief of the General Staff (CGS), who is immediately subordinate to the Chief of the Defence Staff. The CGS is supported by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff (DCGS).

Army units are either full time regular units, or part-time reserve units.

Levels of Command

Command in the army is based on rank. The table below outlines how units are structured.

Recruitment

The Ombrian Army recruits solely from within Ombria but can accept applications from all Ombrian citizens. However, some foreign citizens may be allowed to apply if they are granted permission from the monarch.

All soldiers and officers agree to serve for a minimum term, which may be extended. After a certain percentage of their contracted service being completed, servicemen may resign. It is generally expected that all soldiers and officers will undertake a period of reserve service after resigning from active duty, before being fully discharged from the army.

Oath of Allegiance

All soldiers and commissioned officers must take an oath of allegiance upon joining the army in a process known as attestation. Those who wish to swear by God use the following words:

"I, [soldier's or commissioned officer's name], swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Colin I, his heirs and successors and that I will as in duty bound honestly and faithfully defend His Majesty, his heirs and successors in person, crown and dignity against all enemies and will observe and obey all orders of His Majesty, his heirs, and successors and of the generals and officers set over me."

Training

All army candidates who are selected for service are required to undergo common training, beginning with initial military training. This is known as phase 1 training and is designed to bring all members of the army to a basic level of competency and standard in military skills. After phase 1, all soldiers go on to phase 2 training. Phase 2 is trade specific training, where trainees undertake specialist trade-specific training for their regiment or corps.

However, Private soldiers are known by a wide variety of titles; notably trooper, gunner, guardsman, kingsman, sapper, signaller, fusilier, craftsman and rifleman dependant on the regiment they belong to. The titles used by each regiment do not affect a soldier's pay or responsibilities.
