The People's Republic of Marhaenia (Indonesian: Republik Rakyat Marhaenia) is a self-declared sovereign state (micronation) situated in Southeast Asia. It consists of five provinces bordered by the Republic of Indonesia and was established in 2023. Its capital and largest city is Vlanderming

Marhaenia is a unitary socialist republic led by the chairman of the People's Party as the president for life. The president holds the authority to appoint a vice president every six-month period. Additionally, the president is empowered to appoint governors every six months, amend the constitution, and issue presidential decrees.

While Marhaenia maintains strong ties with various socialist states worldwide, it also fosters positive international relations with numerous non-socialist nations, including liberal republics and kingdoms. Currently, Marhaenia is a member of the United Micronations, Micronational Assembly, and the Southeast Asian Micronational Association.

Etymology

Marhaenia comes from the term marhaen with the suffix -ia. Marhaen itself is a term referring to commoners of low-to-medium class citizens. In marhaenism, a marhaen is someone with the means of production but is also completely independent economically no matter how little they earn; whilst historically, it had always been used to refer proletarians originating of the Nusantara and its surrounding (the Southeastern Asia Continentum). As a result, derivations of socialism had always been historically tied to the area. In short, Marhaenia is a nation of the commoners, in the definition.

History

Foundation

The People's Republic of Marhaenia was founded on 13 March 2023 as the Socialist Republic of Marhaenia by Ahmad Marhaen with the help of several of his friends, starting with the drafting of the text of the declaration of independence, until the reading of the declaration of independence. Marhaenia's independence was finally achieved with the help of these friends, and the drafting of the constitution began. The constitution was finally ratified on 18 May 2023 and has been the fundamental law of the nation since that date to 1 June 2023 when the constitution was abolished.

2024 Crisis

The 2024 Crisis is the name given to the period of ineffective government functioning from the beginning of the year until April. It culminated on 1 May 2024 when the republic was dissolved and replaced by an interim government that lasted only a few days until it was dissolved on May 3 and the republic was restored.

Politics and government

The Central People's Government functions as the nation's main administrative body. It operates within the framework of the constitution, which establishes the president's authority in accordance with the rule of law, alongside other state institutions and laws.

President

The President of the People's Republic of Marhaenia serves as both the head of state and head of government. This position is held by the incumbent chairman of the People's Party, who appoints the cabinet and serves as the commander-in-chief of the nation's armed forces.

Law and order

The legislative body of the People's Republic of Marhaenia is the People's Congress, responsible for drafting and ratifying laws at both provincial and national levels. Additionally, in terms of security organization, the Marhaen's Militia serves as a temporary national police force in Marhaenia.

Military

The Revolutionary People's Army is the armed wing of the People's Party and serves as the national military agency of the People's Republic of Marhaenia, comprising three branches: the ground force, maritime force, and air force.

Established at the founding of the republic, 13 March 2023, to date the military has been involved in two conflicts, the 2023 Steinchenian coup d'etat and the Vraada conflict.

Marhaenia's territory is situated in rural mountainous areas, encompassing numerous regions within tropical rainforests. Due to ample rainfall in certain areas, Marhaenia's location is conducive to agricultural activities, with the majority of its population consisting of peasants engaged in local rice cultivation within the rice fields.

Marhaenia's economy operates under a socialist framework, primarily sustained by the sale of agricultural products to Indonesia. Furthermore, Marhaenia's production includes household furniture items, with a notable portion of these goods also exported to Indonesia.

Marhaenia's culture is influenced by Javanese and Malay cultures, reflecting the dominant Javanese ethnicity among the majority of the population, with a minority of Malay ethnicity.
