The Federal Republic of Valetira, more commonly known as Valetira, is a micronation in Antarctica and constitutes the majority of Marie Byrd Land excluding both the Ecuadoran claims and the coast of the Ross Ice Shelf. The nation existed for a long time as a cultural polity, and its exact date of origin has since been forgotten, along with much of the original culture that their ancestors held. The nation's birth year is now given as 1997, a year of great importance for its people but certainly not a precise number.

There are three federal states, with the central state of Valetira being the largest in area. A Citizen's Assembly currently governs the nation and guides it. It is a very direct democracy.

One of the goals of Valetira is to seek recognition for its unique cultural identity as a nation. They strongly believe in the act of serving others and will assist anyone in the micronationalist community in whatever ways are possible.

Etymology

The meaning and origin of "VALETIRA" have been lost to time, and its current meaning used by its people is "culture" and "traditions."

History

The people of Valetira originally the descendants of immigrants from the Levant region and its surroundings. The original Valetirans tried to stay connected and preserve the ways of their ancestors, but they unfortunately failed. Emigration had caused them to lose everything culturally, and after enough time had passed, they were somewhat indistinguishable from the mainstream cultures of their new lands. These peoples would become isolated from the rest of the diaspora and heavily assimilated into their new lands.

Prior to the advent of the internet, Bulletin Board Systems over telephone networks permitted a few to communicate beyond their own isolated communities and would discover Valetirans that were different from themselves. During the ascent of the internet, many of them sought out others out of a desire for kinship. Being so culturally diverse presented them with many challenges to overcome, including basic communication. Attempts were made to resurrect the languages used by their parents and even ancestors, but due to the use of computers for communication, English took hold as the de facto standard, and today it is the official language of the nation.

Unfortunately, these early days of reconnecting were not always pleasant. The diversity of the people meant there were a lot of disputes. Matters such as diet, fashion, grammar, vocabulary, the calendar system, holidays, and common values were frequently challenged. Some would argue over what was "really traditional." Others would argue that a new custom was superior to all that had come before and should supplant them.

It was during this time that a new movement to unify the people under a new culture was formed. This was meant to overcome the challenge of such broadly diverse customs and traditions. Many new customs and traditions were adopted, and even some old ones have been kept. A major focus was then placed on welcoming outsiders to adopt and help develop the culture. This was done because it was decided that they were distinct people and not bound by ancient ancestry any longer. It was then that the notion of formally calling themselves a "nation" began.

The eras of Valetira can be summarized as such:

The Ancient Era (3800 BC - 1878 AD | 5901 VC - 11578 VC) - The time of the ancestors living in and around the Levant. A diverse and globally important region. Many of its people would emigrate during this time as well, all over the globe.
The Emigration Era (1878 AD - 1984 AD | 11578 VC - 11684 VC) - When their people's ancestors left the Levant for other lands and became isolated and assimilated. The old ways of their ancestors are lost.
The Reconnecting Era (1984 AD - 1997 VC | 11684 VC - 11697 VC) - Complex telecommunication becomes accessible, and people start to reconnect. Their diversity leads them to internal conflicts.
The Valetiran Era (1997 AD - Present | 11697 VC - Present) - The building of a unique cultural polity and nation to overcome internal conflicts as well as expand to invite outsiders to join them.

Politics and government

All affairs of the nation's government are handled directly by its citizens through the Citizen's Assembly also known as The Assembly. All decisions are first proposed and recorded as being "Introduced," the first stage. Next, in the Consideration stage, the proposals will be debated openly without any time limit until the debate participants have voted to move them to the final stage. The last stage is Adoption. This is a final vote on the matter, and the order of what is eligible for enactment is decided based on the total number of debate participants.

Early government

The governance structure of Valetira prior to the current Valetiran Era was done in a very decentralized manner according to each isolated community and was handled by those with the most influence to guide their community.

Prime Minister

The Prime Minister's role is to oversee the other ministers and the functions of the National Assembly.

National Assembly

The National Assembly (The Assembly) is the legislative branch of Valetira. All citizens are invited to participate freely.

Political parties

Political organizations are not officially recognized or granted any special privileges. People may form any factions, groups, or parties they wish.

Law and order

The guiding principles of the law are as follows:

Treat others as you would like to be treated.
Do not treat others in ways that you would not like to be treated.
Wish upon others what you would wish upon yourself.

The law is enforced only so far as it is possible to do so in such a highly decentralized nation. This is handled by the Ministry of Justice and is often done in the form of financial fines, forced labor, or communal pressure.

Military

Defense is the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense. Due to the decentralized nature of the nation, the defense of the people is left largely to themselves to manage. The Ministry of Defense's responsibilities are to arrange for training and equipment for its people, but mainly to deal with cybersecurity-related matters.

Ministries

The Ministry of Commerce is responsible for the nation's trade, production, and safety regulations.
The Ministry of Culture is responsible for the preservation, development, and transmission of Valetira's unique culture.
The Ministry of Defense is responsible for the nation's overall safety. It oversees the Chief of Military and the Chief of Cybersecurity. They are mostly involved with cybersecurity matters.
The Ministry of Education is responsible for providing both citizens and foreigners alike with education and educational credential verification.
The Ministry of Emergency Preparedness is responsible for the preparation of emergencies, catastrophes, and disasters, both natural and man-made. This will include both the stockpiling of supplies, education, advisories, and communication.
The Ministry of Environment is responsible for environmental regulation and advocacy.
The Ministry of Ethnic Affairs is responsible for the promotion of mixed-race, black, and stateless people's cultures, ethnic unity, and the advocacy of ethnic rights.
The Ministry of Finance is responsible for taxation; the National Reserve Treasury Bank, which holds the nation's money; the Central Minting Bank, which produces the currency of the nation; and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, which invests the nation's money for its own benefit.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for all foreign diplomacy with external nations. It also oversees the distribution of foreign aid.
The Ministry of Health is responsible for providing both citizens and foreigners alike with healthcare information, treatment, and products.
The Ministry of Immigration is responsible for the control of immigration and new citizenship.
The Ministry of Inter-Micronational Development is responsible for assisting other micronations in their development.
The Ministry of Justice is responsible for the enforcement of the nation's laws.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs is responsible for the maintenance of religious holiday observances, religious unity, and advocacy of religious rights.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is responsible for the welfare of the people. It manages the National Investment Plan for retirement, home buying, education, and savings. It also manages the National Insurance Plan for healthcare, unemployment, disability, housing, automobiles, and contents. It oversees the Valetiran Mutual Aid Society.
The Ministry of Sports is responsible for the development and management of sports, particularly e-sports.
The Ministry of State is responsible for defining the territories and accumulating statistics on their citizens. It is also responsible for maintaining the division of the three states and the issuance of identification cards.

The Federal Republic of Valetira is a federation of three states: Valetira, Ajid and Wuzuyar. The "Three States System" is an integral part of Valetiran culture as it helps them accept everyone without question. The states all have different values and legislation.

Valetira is the capital state and contains the capital city of Gil. This state is meant for those who are fully-Valetiran in their values. The culture and laws of this state are a compromise between the other two but should never be referred to as "middle ground." All residents must adhere to Valetiran culture and values here.
Ajid is the most libertarian state, and few restrictions are placed on its residents. Nobody is required to adhere to any proscribed culture or set of values here. Law enforcement is as light as possible. Newcomers are always accepted into the Ajid state.
Wuzuyar is the state with the greatest restrictions on its residents and is meant for those who seek a very safe, clean, regulated, and simple life. Nearly all aspects of daily life are regulated, here and nearly all things are banned here if they have more than just a slight chance to cause harm. Newcomers who seek to start their lives as Wuzuyar residents must first be aware of the restricted lifestyle that awaits.

Geography and climate

As Valetira covers most of Marie Byrd Land, references to the latter's geography can be used to describe Valetira.

Valetira is bordered by the Amundsen Sea in the east and the Ross Sea and Ross Ice Shelf in the west. Mountain ranges are prominent along and near the coastline, with a few exceptions. Valetira is covered by the vast West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS). The WAIS in Valetira drains off the continent to the east into the Ross Ice Shelf via seven ice streams. Along the coast of the Southern Ocean and the Amundsen Sea, ice drains via glaciers, the major one being the Thwaites. West Antarctica and Valetira have elevations of up to 1500 to 2000 meters on the surface of the WAIS. In contrast, East Antarctica has interior elevations on its ice sheet of over 4000 meters.

The West Antarctic Rift System (WARS) which evolved over the last hundred million years, includes all or part of Valetira. The WARS extends from the Ross Sea continental shelf east into Valetira. The ice streams and glaciers that drain the WAIS have been proposed to follow rift valleys, now buried by ice that formed in the WARS. The WARS contains a volcanic province with volcanoes active from the Eocene epoch to a few thousand years ago.

A mantle plume was discovered deep below Valetira. Heat from the plume has been proposed to be responsible for the uplift of a significant portion of West Antarctica to form the Marie Byrd Land Dome.

Economy

Valetira's economy is primarily in information technology services: data center management, content delivery networks, hosting servers, and other similar work form the backbone of the Valetiran economy. Financial services, education, healthcare, and the export of gold and silver form other components of the Valetiran economy.

Culture

The culture of Valetira is its greatest National Treasure. Its original people have both combined, resurrected, and developed new aspects of the culture collaboratively. There is a strong sense of common values that have developed over the years.

The main values of Valetira are represented in the triband colors of the flag:

Black - Crypto-anarchism - They depend upon the internet to survive and conduct their commerce and communications. They uphold the value of crypto-anarchism by supporting self-hosted solutions, decentralized services, and strong encryption.
White - Compromise - No nation is purely one thing, and Valetira is no different. They understand that no matter what, some form of compromise is needed to remain united.
Gold - Libertarianism - While this may seem to directly contrast with the previous value, it is upheld as it is believed that everyone must have as much freedom as a society can possibly them. The problems of too much freedom are better than the problems of too little.

The languages of Valetira are Valetiran and English. Valetiran is a constructed language to be used in official and religious ceremonies.
