The President of the Democratic Republic of Moava, commonly just the President of Moava, is the head of state and head of government of the Democratic Republic of Moava. They are leader of the executive branch of government and is the highest office in the nation.
The presidency is the oldest continuously constituted office in Moava.
The current president is Oswald Knight.
History
The presidency was first established under the First Constitution of Moava under the Republic of Moava on 2 June 2023. The office was kept when the Democratic Republic of Moava was founded after the Republic of Moana's dissolution on 27 June 2023.
Powers
The powers of the presidency currently are fairly broad due to a lack of current constitution. Current powers and duties of the president include:
- Appointing Members of the Council of Ministers
- Creating Secondary Legislation
- Proposing Primary Legislation to the National Assembly
- Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
- Assenting or Vetoing Bills Passed in the Legislature
- Calling or Dissolving the National Assembly
- Passing Presidential Decrees that Have Legal Force
- Ratifying Treaties
- Crediting and Receiving Diplomats
- Representing Moava Abroad
- Declaring War and Making Peace
Appointment
The president of Moava is appointed by direct election for terms of five years. This is something that was outlined in the First Constitution of Moava. Presidential terms are renewable indefinitely.
Eligibility
To be eligible to run for president people must meet certain requirements:
- Citizen of Moava for a Minimum Period of Six Months
- Be At Least Seventeen Years of Age
- Be Nominated by a Political Party for Candidacy
