Lord Marshal William K., Baron of Zephyria, formerly known as Lord General William, is an Austenasian military officer, and previously served as a politician between 2009 and 2017, representing his hometown of Zephyria. Lord Marshal William served as Acting Prime Minister for most of 2013 and for a few weeks in 2011.

Deputy Prime Minister before the Austenasian Civil War, after declaring war on Emperor Esmond III he was removed from his positions of power. After Esmond III won the war, William was brought back into government by Act 125 (Reform of South Kilttown) in September 2010, as it was clear that doing so was the wish of the Zephyrian people. Lord Marshal William served as Minister of Defence from 2009 to 2010, and then again from 2011 to 2015, holding the record amongst Representatives for the longest time spent in the same government ministry.

He retired from politics upon the dissolution of Zephyria, but retains his Austenasian nationality, and remained in office as Magister Militum until the dissolution of the Austenasian Army in June 2020.

Biography

Pre-war

A good friend of Jonathan I and a supporter of the Austenasian Declaration of Independence, on 22 March 2009 William and his mother signed a Treaty of Annexation to join their house to the Empire. It was annexed as the town of South Kilttown (now known as Zephyria) on 25 April 2009, and Lord William was declared the new town's Acting Representative.

Strongly militaristic, Lord General William was the driving force behind the founding of the Austenasian Army. As well as being Magister Militum in (the professional head of) the Austenasian Army, he was Air Marshal of the IAF before it was dissolved following the outbreak of the Austenasian Civil War which he declared.

Austenasian Civil War

On 7 March 2010, after the failing of the Vestry Conference, the then Lord General William declared civil war on the Austenasian Government after realising that the then Crown Prince Jonathan had a recording of him denouncing the new Emperor. He was immediately removed from the offices of Chief Inspector and Deputy Prime Minister, and the following day lost all Austenasian titles and offices (as son of a Baron, he kept the style "The Hon."). He then raised an army of more than 80 people ready to engage the Empire in combat. On 21 March, South Kilttown Town Council reinstated him as Representative - an illegal move, as a bye-law cannot contradict an Act of Parliament. Although William therefore had effective power over South Kilttown for the rest of the war, his father Lord John was still regarded as the de jure Acting Representative in the eyes of the Austenasian Government.

On 18 April 2010, William met Crown Prince Jonathan and Gen. Sir Ryan Dickinson at Carshalton Park in order to discuss peace terms. However, he refused to settle for anything less than full reinstatment of all his titles and positions. The Crown Prince refused, and the government force attempted to handcuff William to make him surrender and end the war. William fought his way out and stole a bag of AAF equipment. After a short battle, he sustained a nosebleed, insisting that he had not been hit on the nose but that it had been caused by running around in the sun too much. The Crown Prince and General then escorted him out of the park and let him retreat to South Kilttown.

After the Battle of the Grove also ended in a government victory, William agreed to sign the Treaty of Carshalton, organising the Austenasian Monarchical Referendum. This ended in an Esmondian victory, and so William was bound by the terms of the Treaty of Carshalton to surrender. On 23 May 2010, William signed the Treaty of Ruskin Road 2010. This granted him full amnesty for his actions during the war, as it was recognised that he was only doing what he thought was his duty to who he believed was the lawful Monarch. By signing the Treaty, he was surrendering to the Austenasian government, recognising Esmond III as Emperor and Acts 105 and 113 as lawful. The Treaty came into force on 24 May 2010, after recieving the final signature, that of the Emperor himself.

Post-war

On 30 May 2010, William's father relinquished the Barony of South Kilttown, passing it on to William, who became 2nd Baron of South Kilttown. In September, South Kilttown was renamed to Zephyria, and Lord William was appointed Acting Representative over it. Lord William was given permission to found a Zephyrian air force independent from the Austenasian Armed Forces. This he did, naming it the Imperial Air Force after the previous Austenasian air force.

When the War of the Orlian Reunification broke out in December 2010, Lord William took charge of the Empire's military, leading an invasion of the Tsardom of Orly (which was eventually repulsed). He appointed himself Marshal of the Imperial Air Force after the Fall of Wrythe, when Emperor Esmond III ordered the armed forces of Austenasia to be rebuilt, and was appointed Minister of Defence on 2 January 2011. The previous day, he had been re-elected as Representative of Zephyria.

On 5 June 2011, Lord Marshal William was appointed Acting Prime Minister by Crown Prince Jonathan, and held the powers of the office of Prime Minister alongside the Crown Prince until Jonathan had finished his GCSE exams on the 22nd later that month.

December 2011 and onwards

Lord Marshal William was confirmed as a Candidate for the December 2011 Austenasian General Election on 11 November 2011, and also stood in the concurrent Local Election. Results were announed on Christmas Eve - although the Lord Marshal failed to be elected Prime Minister with only 25% of the vote, he was again re-elected Representative of Zephyria, with 100% of the vote. He was later that day appointed both Home Secretary and Minister for the Environment.

The Lord Marshal renamed his airforce to the Zephyrian Air Force in January 2012 after the Imperial Air Force proper was refounded, the former remaining under his private control with the latter joining the Austenasian Armed Forces. On 20 January 2013, Crown Prince Jonathan ascended the Throne as Emperor Jonathan I, losing his office of Prime Minister - as Deputy, William became Acting Prime Minister, a position he held until the November 2013 Austenasian elections on 18 November. He was re-elected Representative of Zephyria, but lost his office of Home Secretary in a Cabinet reshuffle. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor on 12 March 2014 upon the foundation of the Privy Council. On 3 May 2014, he was replaced as Minister for the Environment by Lord Charles C., and the following year on 4 March was replaced as Minister of Defence by Lord Legate Eren Lewis. He remained Representative of Zephyria until the town's dissolution in June 2017.
