The flag of Southern Columbia was adopted on 15 May 2023 and consisted of a defaced Blue Ensign, with the Union Flag in the canton and the nation's badge on a white disc the fly half.

History

The flag was designed by Dustin Carlson, the founding father and inaugural governor of the territory. Taking inspiration from the flags of historical British colonies, Carlson adopted the Blue Ensign and added the badge from Southern Columbia's national coat of arms to a white disc in the fly. The badge consists of the Royal Crest of the crowned lion upon the Imperial Crown supported by laurel and oak branches. On either side of the crowned lion are the letters "SC" for Southern Columbia. The overall design of the flag is very similar to the flag of the Colony of British Columbia from 1870-1871.

Description

The Constitution of the Southern Columbian Protectorate mandates that the flag have a proportion of 1:2 and be printed using the following colour shades:

Color Royal Blue Red White
RGB 1,33,105 200,16,46 255,255,255
Hex #012169 #C8102E #FFFFFF

Use of the flag

Since its creation, the flag has been used to represent Southern Columbians both at home and abroad. Besides its status as a de facto national flag, the flag is also used as a national ensign when flown at sea. The flag can be flown by any individual or organization in the country on any day of their choice. The Governor of Southern Columbia used a Union Flag defaced with the coat of arms, a design traditional for Governors of the British overseas territories. For the civil ensign, a Red Ensign is used.

Half-mast

The flag is flown from government buildings at half-mast in the following situations:

  • Upon the announcement of the death of the Sovereign
  • The day of the funeral of a member of the Royal Family
  • The funeral of a foreign Head of State
  • The funeral of any Southern Columbian citizen or official

The flag can also be flown at half-mast for other reasons, at the discretion of the governor.
