The Fernandez Cabinet took office on 6 February 2022, after being confirmed by the Volksraad, whose members were all appointed by Hertog Sean Dunkerque after the events of the First Republic. It was formed by António Fernandez, a previously largely unknown statesman, after being asked by O'Lachtna to become Premier.
The Fernandez Cabinet took an interesting turn from the Stoddard Cabinet in that it was a much quieter force in politics, using its power to check the Hertog's actions much more than its legislative initiative, whereas its predecessor worked in tandem with the then-Grand Marshal to create new laws, making for a much longer time for bills to be made, one of the key contributing factors to the Great Decline. 6 February 2022 is widely seen as the beginning of the Second Republic.
