Enduring Symphony is a series of epic sci-fi fantasy novels by Charles Madgett. The first volume of the series, Blood and Steel, is published on 30 April 2023. Madgett has written seven volumes, including Blood and Steel's sequel Blood and Battle.
Enduring Symphony takes place in the fictional galaxy of Aeros. The main story is regarding the main character Raizo and his team called the Negatives who attempt to spread peace throughout the galaxy.
Each novel's 'type' can usually be identified by the title. For example, stories that have to do with the present time Negatives, Undarm -3, and Raizo usually are titled with "Blood and," which started with Blood and Steel. Stories that are made up of journal entries or are used for character building are usually titled with "Legacy," to indicate that this is that character, or group's, legacy. This will start upon the release of Blood and War: Legacy Edition, which features an additional two pages which hold journal entries from Raizo during Blood and Steel.
Inspirations for Enduring Symphony are often pointed at Star Wars, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Madgett's past works. Dragon Ball notably became an inspiration during the writing of the Nexus Saga. Since 22 September, ACBIC has acquired publishing rights to the series and a streaming series has been in the works.
Plot synopsis
Blood Saga
Enduring Symphony takes place in the fictional galaxy Aeros. However, the main parts of the story have to do with the politics and wars surrounding the main character, Raizo's, home planet Macha. Raizo, following Blood and Steel, rules over Macha and is tasked with governing it. During Blood and Battle, many other planetary governments begin to show animosity towards one another as terrorist attacks plague Aeros. Over time, wars begin on planets such as Yarv. This leads to a civil war on Yarv where, ultimately, the planet leaves the Intergalactic Council and withdraws from the All-Recognition Agreement - a document solidifying the idea of each planetary government recognizing each other.
Following the withdrawal from the agreement and Yarv leaving the Intergalactic Council, other planets begin to follow in Yarv's footsteps which further animosity towards those who believe in the Council and those who do not. By the end of Blood and Battle, this ends with the start of the Intergalactic War.
The Intergalactic War is chronicled in Blood and War, where it spans many years. Eventually, the two main factions - the Freedom Alliance and the Yarvan Treaty - come to a forced conclusion. Macha and its allied planets part of the Freedom Alliance defeat the Yarvan Treaty, whose members sue for peace.
Nexus Saga
The Nexus Saga is the second chapter in Enduring Symphony. In which, it is revealed that Raizo's father - Gas - had challenged the deities of the Enduring Symphony universe known as the Kao-Kaio. Gas had challenged the Kao-Kaio, but was killed by their father, the Kaio. The Kaio is revealed to be the God of Gods, and he kills Gas using 4% of his power.
Thousands of years after this, the Negatives were formed and Raizo was made King of Macha. Afterwards, the Kaio leaves a threatening warning for the citizens of Macha and the Negatives suspect that he's up to no good. They're then informed by an ancient Machan about the status of the Kaio as the God of Gods and informed about the Kao-Kaio. Raizo specifically is also informed about the prophetical Mega Machan, a Machan who undergoes a transformation said to be the savior from heaven. Kao-Avatar, a Kao-Kaio, infects Raizo with a disease that gives him godly energy and powers. This makes Raizo much stronger, who then goes to fight another Kao-Kaio, Kao-Discord.
Raizo defeats Discord. The Kaio, now significantly threatened by this, sends a recording device Gas used to record audio of their fight to Macha. The device lands and the Machans listen to it. These recordings reveal that Gas is Raizo's father. Raizo, conflicted, then flies to space in anger. In his anger, he unleashes a new transformation as the Mega Machan. He then slays numerous Kao-Kaio before the transformation wears off and he goes back to Macha.
Afterwards, he gets his potential unleashed by the Ancient Machan while the Negatives hold off against other Kao-Kaio. After Raizo's potential is fully unleashed, he then defeats the Kao-Kaio who were on Macha. The group then go back to Macha and celebrate Raizo's victory. Raizo then informs them that they all must continue their training so they can defeat the rest of the Kao-Kaio, and the Kaio himself.
Characters
The Negatives
Raizo: A teenage Machan male. He seeks to defeat the evil tyrant of Macha named Chosen. He joins the Negatives and eventually becomes their leader, succeeding Undarm -3 and later on defeating Chosen and becoming King of Macha.
Undarm -3: A Machan-developed robot who rebelled against his brothers to help people, instead of threaten and kill them. He joined the Negatives first team and became their second leader. Undarm is their leader at the start of the story.
Sierra and Kai: Two members of the Negatives who eventually serve as advisors to Raizo when he becomes King of Macha.
Villains
Chosen: The tyrannical King of Macha at the start of the Blood Saga, eventually is killed by Raizo, who succeeds him.
Potfrz: An adult Machan male who uses radical and hateful politics. He attempts to manipulate Raizo into giving him the power in Macha.
Deities
Kaio: Kaio is the God of Gods in the Enduring Symphony Universe. He is the embodiment and personification of perfection and balance. He has ten children called the Kao-Kaio, known as Chaos Gods.
Kao-Chilled: Chilled, or Kao-Chilled depending on one's persuasion, is the weakest child of Kaio. A Kao-Kaio, he is an embodiment of chaos and destruction.
Kao-Tempest: Tempest, or Kao-Tempest depending on one's persuasion, is also the weakest child of Kaio, holding the same amount of power as Kao-Chilled.
Publishing history
The first four books were initially self-published by Madgett. However, on 22 September 2023 it was decided that ACBIC would re-publish the first four books, publish the next four books, and create a streaming series based on the books. The contract is expected to be renewed whenever the next four books are published.
ACBIC-Dragon Studio Offers
Since September 2023, multiple companies have offered to publish Enduring Symphony books. ACBIC specifically has given offers upwards of Đ1,000 and Dragon Studio has given offers upwards of Đ800. ACBIC specifically has cited that the Nexus Saga could establish Enduring Symphony as a rival franchise to Fight of Gods, while Dragon Studio has said that Enduring Symphony would be a great addition to their library of stories. Dragon Studio has also offered to make a streaming series based on the novels.
On 22 September 2023, ACBIC gave their final offer; Đ1,000 to re-publish the first four books of the series under an 'Enduring Classic' release name, with Đ2,200 to publish the next five books of the series, given this is if Madgett writes two more books. In addition to the initial Đ3,200, ACBIC will provide another Đ1,000 to produce a series, Đ1,200 to edit it, and give Madgett Đ3,000 to release it.
Dragon Studio notably made a counter-offer, though stated that this was not their final offer. They offered Đ2,500 to publish any books released after 22 May 2023 and Đ500 to produce and release a streaming series for Firefly, while also offering Đ1,000 in a separate exclusivity deal.
An hour after those offers were made, Madgett made an offer to ACBIC. The offer was Đ5,000 for the re-publishing of the first four books, then Đ5,000 for the publishing of the next four, as well as Đ2,500 for the production of a series and Đ2,500 for the production rights to the series. This offer was accepted and is now what the series' norm is after 22 September 2023.
Releases
The original four books, Blood and Steel, Blood and Battle, Into Undarm, and Blood of War were released all before 22 September 2023. These books are known as the pure four as they feature the original vision of the author. Two releases have been decided those being the original novels and the LIVE Editions which will feature 'arcs,' or smaller collections of volumes in a saga. For example, the first three volumes of Blood and Steel are known as the Exploration Arc because it's focused on the initial exploration of the Enduring Symphony Universe.
