The Commander-in-Chief is the position of the Monarch of Tanaau as the supreme commanding authority of the Armed Forces of Tanaau. In their capacity in this role, the monarch is aided by the prime minister and secretary of state for defence. The position is constitutionally granted to the monarch.

The current commander-in-chief is King Colin I.

Duties and Functions

In the capacity as commander-in-chief the monarch exercising the following powers:

  • Direct, Control and Govern the Armed Forces
  • Declare War and Make Peace
  • Deploy the Armed Forces Overseas
  • Commission All Military Officers
  • Deploy the Armed Forces Internally
  • Powers in the Event of National Emergency
  • Enact Conscription

The monarch, as commander-in-chief, can also grant honorary commissions.

Oaths of Allegiance

As part of joining the armed forces, all enlisted personnel and officers must take the following oath:

"I [name] swear by Almighty God (do solemnly, and truly declare and affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Colin I, His Heirs and Successors, and that I will, as in duty bound, honestly and faithfully defend His Majesty, His Heirs and Successors, in Person, Crown and Dignity against all enemies, and will observe and obey all orders of His Majesty, His Heirs and Successors, and of the General Officers (Air Officers if entering the RTAF, Admirals if entering the Royal Tanaauan Navy) and officers set over me."

Military Appointments

As commander-in-chief, the monarch makes all military senior appointments. They usually make all appointments from the 2-star level and above, and on the advice of the prime minister or defence secretary. The commander-in-chief also appoints "Colonels of the Regiment" in army regiments, who act as ceremonial commanders of the regiment their title belongs to, and they can sometimes act as wartime commanders if they have military experience. Some senior enlisted positions are also appointed by the monarch.

All branch commanders and the Chief of the Defence Staff serve at the monarch's pleasure.
