History

Palais de Tokyo, 2007

Despite attempts to establish physical space on 1985 where founders were faced at gunpoint being forced to drop the project, and a website that run between 1996 and 1997, it was reestablished in may 9, 2000 by Yan Pagh with the international declaration of human rights as its constitution as a philosophical project.

The Nation suffers radical change after the Danish cartoons scandal in 2005, where it then assumes its full passion for freedom of expression, accepting members changing the layout with the aid of Daniela Baumsgaard, a professional web designer and a friend after hours long conversations about the cartoons scandal.

In 2006, due to its amunsingly acid critic against radicalism from both sides the Nation of YAN (YAN means: "whY A Nation?") is invited by the artist Peter Coffin to participate at the museum of contemporary arts of Paris of an exhibition of projects that would offer new and more humane models of government, together with other groups as Nutopia, Cristiania and Sealand.

The exhibition starts on February 1 2007 and goes to may 6 2007, it strengthens the position of the nation into micronationalism and Yan Pagh the creator of the concept is acclaimed as a philosopher by the critics of the exhibition.

With intention of settling in real world, the project was for some time to develop a virtual city where all members would be accessing and where the possibilities of the creation of a real city could be observed.

However, after seeing the precedent the Kossovo opened, members have decided to focus on the real world after analysing international laws that the world is open for the possibility for new nations turning all efforts towards this possibility, having transformed the site that would serve for the virtual city into a social network website and projecting itself as an association with address in Copenhagen Denmark being recently officially recognised as such by Danish authorities, oddly enough, on the 1st of April of 2008.

The nation also has participated on the Danish hobbie fair of 2008 with a 3mx5m stand in Valby Hall on 2008, and hosting the micronational Olympics of 2008, where for the first time in micronational history, real medals were distributed to the winners.

On 2009 the nation was invited to participate on the Biennal in Bienne, Switzerland, and had its Council flag erected at the bridge of that city.

On 2010, the nation has purchased virtual space on secondlife.com where it invites other micronations to create their own virtual embassy on their region (the MATRIX region on secondlife).

The nation has also chosen a new host to the micronational olympics 2010, the sixth micronational olympics, carrying on this that is the first micronational tradition on micronationalism since its creation by Molossia.

Government

International Yanian Council

The government is a constitutional noocracy administrated by a council headed by the founder of the nation and two secretaries and all community leaders related to the project.

The Council consists today, of the founder, its two Council secretaries and the protectorates of the Great Kingdom of Britonia, the Great Kingdom of Dan, and the Republic of Nosotro.

The head of the council, a frugal and draconian figure, has been called amongst other names, as "the Cromwell of micronationalism", due to the severity of his response against anyone who attacks his nation.

Yanians have been successful so far on fending attacks against their nation by other well established micronations, to the point of getting entire web forums closed down as the debacle extended.

The response of Yanian Government despite rapid, severe and brutal on any attempt that is deemed offensive against its people, is also known to be forgiving and extremely generous with its allies and sympathisers, usually putting themselves on the chopping block to save anyone they believe to be treated unfairly, and many have been the times where the nation of YAN has sacrificed a position of power in micronationalism in pro of those who they take sides with.

As defense, Its government counts with undercover supporters referred to as "ravens", who scavenge the web and elsewhere looking for whatever might be of useful for this nation, and its security force, that today consists of an Voluntary International Brigade (VIBE) under wich today is the First Royal Regiment of Wyverns.

VIBE has not been used so far, and is still under formation.

The Yanian government has declared war on general stupidity and is a strong oppositor to politically correctness as the Head of the Council likes to call it: "a politically correct word for blind censorship and mind control".

The Yanian government has also decided to condemn lies as "the most serious offense against humanity", as the government believes that lies are what usually cause death and destruction on humanity, if not plain stupidity.

The Yanian government also believes that nations that cannot balance their economy shoud be handled to micronations to manage, rather than to send billions in to the same governments that have caused the financial collapse on the first place.

The Yanian government also refuses to recognise any nation or group that has not recognised their nation beforehand.

Orders

The nation of YAN hosts the Order of Peace to foreign dignataries and anyone who does service in the name of world peace.

The nation also hosts the Order of the Wild Hunt for those who struggle for freedom of expression and freedom of speech.

Culture

Culture day

Their calendar is a most peculiar one, as it is based on the Central American calendars from before European colonisation with some innovations inserted, as the seven days week and 28 days months, with some free days to celebrate the winter equinox.

YAN is a noocratic state.

Yanians tend to be truth seekers, and clash violently if nescessary with those who fail with it.

As a noocracy, Yanian culture is extremely creative, as more than the half of its citizens are professional artists, from professional DJ's to professional painters members of UNESCO, and their first colony promises to be a refuge for the arts, where artists will be able to trade without any influence or mediation of gallery owners.

Despite having vegetarians, YAN is basically a carnivore society, as barbecue, sushi and sashimi are common dishes on this culture.

Yanians are adepts of homeschooling at it is proven by studies on the matter not only to give better education, but also to eliminate any racial or social barriers that other forms for studies apparently create.

The Yanian territory consists of all land that is owned by its members and of donations of lands by other people.

The nation of YAN is also a proud member of MOC, the Micronational Olympics Committee founded and apparently, approved by all active micronations to have hosted a micronational olympics.

The further development of this culture can be found at their website and at the MATRIX region on second life.

Economy

The Yan

The national economy is based on art value, and its currency is the Yan, divided on 100 pennis (P) and each pennis is subdivided into 100 cunnts (c).

Each Yan has a fix value of €27 (about $34) meaning that each pennis (P) is valued on €2.7 and each cunnt is worth €0.27

At the end of 2007, when registering at the then named international bank of art money, Lars Kræmmer, the founder of the bank suggested that the currency would be named Yan as a form for national bond.

On 2008, the Yan has been coined to commemorate the micronational olympics of 2008 with the fantastic work of Jorge Fernandez Vidal carrying the design of the year's olympics on one of its faces, the gold plated commemorative coin can still be found for sale around the web.

Real Royal Lineages

Odense Coat of arms since 1970 depicting the previous coat of arms on Knut the Holy's royal banner

His Holy Highness Yan I descends from the founders of Odense and Kings of Vejle from one side of the family, and their coat of arms, the golden fleur de lis on blue field comes from Danish King Knut the Holy.

From the other side of the family from the Duke of Alba, the founders of Britonia on Northern Spain, and the conquistador Sandoval, one of the two tenents of Captain Cortez as well as the founders of several cities throughout all the americas vice-roys and governors fo several colonies, making his lineage one of the oldest in the world, and unbroken in terms of nobility.

The display of his coat of arms however is usually the single Fleur de Lis from the Pagh, some variants however have included the quarters of the De Brito and on a fewer occasions those of the Aalbæk, Klein (Austrian branch of the family), de Barbosa and those of de Sandoval from whom he also direcly descend from.

As a Uradel local monarchs usually holds no right to bestow or retrieve his ancient coats of arms (some of them dating from before the year 1000DC) therefore giving him the right to bare arms on many European countries.

As a Uradel he is also entitled to elect nobles.

He is therefore entitled to use crest consisting of the Crowned Golden Wyvern of Fyn (Fionia, Funen) as marked on the epitaph of Bishop Peder Pagh from 1339 (removed during the reform on the Church of Our Lady in Odense on 1879) and the and his bestiary includes the Crowned Golden Wyvern of Fyn on the right side and the Red Lion of the Brito family with a golden halo to indicate the martir of India Saint John de Brito, however on the flag display he chose not to set them in order to indicate that his power is sustained by God alone, and not by beasts.

Yanian Nobility is not uniform on its beliefs, however all must be praticant Yanians.
