West Latgalians are a ethnic subgroup of Latgalians. They are mainly identified with the Latgalians who left Latgale after WW2. The true number is speculated, but the West Latgalian government recognizes that there are 100-400 West Latgalians, while it is estimated there could be thousands.

History

The creation of the West Latgalian subgroup mainly formed when thousands of Latgalians had moved west (to many areas, suprisingly, it was very uncommon for Latgalians to move to Riga), to many areas, including the territories that are now West Latgale. The event is named "The great migration west" by the West Latgalian government. Many West Latgalians considered themselves either Latvians, or Latgalians, the latter being rarer.
