Vestmannaeyjar Federation, Known as the Westman Islands is a small collection of islands off the coast of Iceland formed by volcanic eruptions over the past 10,000-12,000 years. The islands came to international attention when the local volcano (Eldfell) erupted.
The islands of Vestmannaejar are named after the Irish slaves who had been captured into slavery by Norsemen. The name Vestmann is from the Old Norse, which means "Westmen" applied to the Irish who were there.
Shortly after Ingólfur Arnarson arrived in Iceland, his brother Hjörleifur was murdered by the slaves he had brought with him. Ingolfur tracked the slaves down to Vestmannaeyjar and killed them all in retribution, hence the name Vestmannaeyjar (the islands of the west men). This is thought to have happened in 875 AD
There was a brief spell when the islands were under the control of the Ottomans on the 16 July 1627, which ended 3 days later on the 19 July. This event was known as the Turkish abductions which consisted of a fleet of 3 ships of Barbary Pirates, who captured the islands from the Algiers.
For centuries, the people of the Westman Islands had a hard struggle for existence, living from fishing and wild birds and their eggs, which they gathered in the cliffs and rock stacks offshore. At the end of the 19th century, when the population was about 600, great changes took place in the lifestyle of the islanders. In 1904, the first motorised boat was purchased, and more followed soon afterwards. By 1930, the population had risen to 3,470. Shortage of water was also a problem for a long time, but a great improvement took place in 1968 when a pipeline was laid.
The area is very volcanically active, like Iceland. There were two major eruptions in the 20th century: the eruption in 1963 that created the new island of Surtsey, and the Eldfell eruption of January 1973, which created a 200-meter-high mountain where a meadow had been, and caused the island's 5,000 inhabitants to be temporarily evacuated to the mainland.
Government & Politics
The Government is a Single-Party Federal Republic whose head of state is known as a Kommandant, which is very similar to a dictator.
The Vestmannaeyjar Federation currently does not have any form of alliance with any nation nor organization at this current point in time. The Federation often like to stay neutral in most cases.
Vestmannaeyjar's only military division known as The Federal Navy, currently has no ship or boat under its authority. The navy previously had a ship on loan, stationed in Greece, with a crew of 3. It was known as FN Kos named after the island it was stationed.

- The plural words in the Icelandic language have been abolished. Instead to make a singular word plural all you have to do is add 'è' (pronunciation is "air")
- The word order is SOV (Subject-Object-Verb) instead of SVO (Subject-Verb-Object)
- In Questions the word order changes to SVO
- "Volcano" is the only word to have its spelling changed, instead it is now spelt in Irish translation for "Volcano" which is "Bolcán".
