Republic of Bedroom and Wesley Kingdom

On 9 October 2014, having read about micronationalism on the internet and wanting to use the distinctive traditions and observances of his family and later friendship group as the basis for a micronation, Kerry Stapleton founded the Republic of Bedroom, with territory covering the entirely of a room in his house. In protest, his brother created his own, unnamed, micronation claiming the same territory. The two "nations" on 10 October signed a treaty which gave the Republic of Bedroom the "northern two-thirds" of the room in exchange for payment of £5.00 over the course of five days. In this treaty, the smaller, unnamed, nation was referred to as the Kingdom of Wesley.

On the fourth day, after £3.00 had already been paid, the Republic of Bedroom informed the so-called Kingdom of Wesley that it would be unable to pay the money on that day. In response, the Kingdom considered the treaty to be null and void, and successfully invaded the Republic of Bedroom. In exchange for the cessation of hostilities, the Republic of Bedroom signed a new treaty, called the Treaty of Secession. In this treaty, the Kingdom of Wesley was instead referred to as the Wesley Kingdom, which is generally the preferred term in modern-day histories. The treaty created a new nation, the Nation of Bedroom, that declared independence from both of the previous ones. The Nation of Bedroom would be a constitutional monarchy, with the King Wesley of the Wesley Kingdom becoming the first Lord King Wesley of the Nation of Bedroom, and the President of the Republic of Bedroom becoming the Prime Minister of the Nation of Bedroom. The two offices were near-equivalent, functioning as co-leaders, but the Lord Wesley could override the Prime Minister.

Nation of Bedroom

The newly-established nation, which is now generally looked back on as having been a Kingdom with power shared equally between the Lord Wesley and the Prime Minister, started to expand its territorial claims. The resistance faced from members of the Campbell family loyal to the United Kingdom and in opposition to the Nation of Bedroom's territorial expansion was described as the actions of a terrorist, pro-UK group called "Hoggleton" (there is no evidence that the resistance itself ever used this name, but it is consistently used in historical records from the period). Eventually, after two days of indirect conflict, including vandalism of signage and other so-called acts of terrorism, stable territorial boundaries were reached. The Nation of Bedroom would control its original territory as the region of Bedroom; the next room and a passage of corridor between the two, the size of which would later be disputed, as the region of Guestroom; and a desk downstairs which was the remains of an unsuccessful attempt to colonise the garden, known as the city-in-exile of Deskta. The country's new flag depicted the old flag in the upper-left quartile, with a red line running from the bottom right of the flag to the bottom right of the quartile, and with three green stars, two above the line and one below. These green stars represented Guestroom, Bedroom and Deskta. Although the Lord Wesley was satisfied with these territorial claims, the Prime Minister still wished to expand Deskta outwards to include a colony in the garden; the flag can be seen as representing his ambition for Deskta to be on the same scale as Bedroom and Guestroom, which were significantly larger.

On 16 October, Michael Howe, a friend of Prime Minister Kerry Stapleton's, created his own micronation, the Democratic Republic of Howe. This nation had a larger territorial claim than Nation of Bedroom and began minting its own currency, Token. This competition spurred the Nation of Bedroom to develop its own power, and it annexed its original territory in the garden and a large area of Barton Fields, a nearby park, as colonies. In response to the creation of the DRoH and the Nation of Bedroom, Robert Catcheside created the Kingdom of Trebor and Jay B'llard created B'llardland. All four of these micronationalists would later become members of the Republic of Glastieve. The micronations joined together to create an organisation called the Exeter United Micronations (EUM), which would later be renamed to the Devon Union (DU) and would be seen as a predecessor to the Glastieve Cultural Association. The creation of the EUM encouraged two non-Acteriendian friends of Catcheside and Stapleton, Ivo Redhill and Ryan Smith, to create their own micronations, the Demorcatic Republic (a deliberate misspelling of Democratic) and the Kingdom of Smith, both of which also joined the EUM. The Democratic Republic of Howe and the Nation of Bedroom were undoubtedly the most prominent of the EUM and competed for influence over its members, although the DRoH remained more isolationist and was less concerned with its foreign policy than with its internal development.

The Nation of Bedroom in October announced that its currency would be the Wesley, with one hundred Wesleys making a Loundré and one hundreth of a Wesley being a Weslet. Wesleys and Loundre were printed on paper; Loundré coins were made using the caps of milk bottles. This was a direct response to the Token. In order to compete with the DRoH, whose currency was pegged at £1.00, the central government announced that the Wesley would be free-floating, with the government's selling price to be determined by the amount of money in the national treasury. Under this system, the initial value of the Wesley was £0.74, which was below the value of the Token. As its next move in the so-called "currency war," Howe minted a number of new Token with a more advanced design and gave out a number to B'llard, Smith and Catcheside to allow them to spend them back into his economy. The Nation of Bedroom's response was to create the Nation of Bedroom Economic Area, which meant that the economies of nations in the EUM (except for the DRoH) were incorporated into the Nation of Bedroom's domestic economy. This, and a government removal of unused money in the system, increased the value of the Wesley to £1.12, marking a victory for the Nation of Bedroom in the currency war.

In late October, the exact date is not known, the Weeskly Wesley, a print newspaper, was established. Michael Howe and his family both purchased subscriptions for three Wesley, and the newspaper was also distributed to the rest of the Campbell family.

In early November, Stapleton encouraged a friend of his, Alfie Davies, to start his own micronation. This micronation was, essentially, a fiefdom of the Nation of Bedroom. Its territory was never properly defined, and almost immediately after its creation a treaty was signed with the Nation of Bedroom that the Lord King Wesley would be the Lord, an undefined term, of all land in Alfieland by office, but that the King of Alfieland would be allowed to override decrees of the Nation of Bedroom. Citizens of Alfieland could vote in Nation of Bedroom referenda where the result of the referendum would affect Alfieland, and could switch to being Nation of Bedroom citizens through a simple procedure. Nation of Bedroom citizens had all the rights of Alfieland citizens. The Nation of Bedroom now had three tiers of territorial claim: Metropolitan Bedroom, Nation of Bedroom Colony and Lordship. The rights of citizens living in colonies and Metropolitan Bedroom were identical, and the only difference was in the representation in the nation's government (which was meaningless, as the Nation of Bedroom had only one member of parliament). However, lordships, of which there were now two, were different, as explained above. The second lordship concerned territory within other sovereign states - the Lordship of Embassies - and was designed for the purposes of correctly establishing dual sovereignty over the embassies.

On 1 December, in an event sometimes nicknamed "GAME OVER." in reference to the Homestuck flash (although that label is now much more frequently used to describe later controversies in Glastieve), the Kingdom of Smith, the Kingdom of Trebor, Alfieland and the Demorcatic all announced that they were "going defunct" (ceding their territories back to the UK and dissolving their central governments). The Nation of Bedroom responded by ending the Nation of Bedroom Economic Area, which saw the value of the Wesley drop to £0.60, and abandoning the colony system, as the expense of keeping it running was dragging down the value of the Wesley. In December, shortly after the end of the Nation of Bedroom's hegemony over nearby micronations, the government held an "open day" to try to raise funds; this was actually quite successful and raised £5.00, which was spent on reopening the colony system. With Alfieland no longer independent, its territories were incorporated into Metropolitan Bedroom. It was noted that the Davies family had a holiday home in Cornwall to which the Campbell family were often invited, and as part of the annexation of Alfieland, the large beach and the holiday home were established as a new territory. The next day, the Lord Wesley overrode the Prime Minister to abandon the claims on Alfieland's main territory and to abandon the Lordship system, making the territories in Barton Fields and Cornwall (Porthcothan) colonies.

In January 2015, activity in the Nation of Bedroom began to decline, with the Lord Wesley near-completely losing interest and the Prime Minister also no longer making active contributions to the project. However, activity increased sharply again in February, when the Davies family invited the Campbell family to attend their holiday home in Porthcothan, which would involve access to the large colony. The Prime Minister wanted to move the government's focus from Exeter to Cornwall, and he also started to refer to the nation as the "Republic of Skovaji," announcing that he had unilaterally changed the name and was waiting for approval from the Lord Wesley, who was initially strongly opposed to changing the name. In what he termed Project Realistic Basis, the Prime Minister forced the less-active Lord Wesley into changes to the country, including changing the flag to a new design, limiting the powers of the Lord Wesley and allowing the Prime Minister to "manage the day-to-day affairs of Skovaji."

First Republic of Skovaji

Despite high hopes for Project Realistic Basis, the Republic of Skovaji remained reasonably inactive throughout March and April, although the territorial claims were again expanded and a new website was created. There was also a period of focus on the so-called Evonian language (an a priori conlang unrelated to the current Evonian used in Glastieven mythology). Outside of Skovaji, Acteriendia was starting to form as a powerful group for the first time, and a flourishing golden age of culture was tempting the Prime Minister to attempt to have Skovaji cash in on this cultural gold mine - that is, to have Skovaji represent the whole friendship group, similar to the later GCA. However, this would not happen until later in the country's history. A new force that was, in Kerry Stapleton's view, holding Skovaji back was Wesleyism, a political philosophy created by the Lord Wesley to challenge the Prime Minister. Represented by the symbols of green stars and pigs, Wesleyism advocated a greater shift towards the traditions of the Campbell family, an increase in the powers of the Lord Wesley, and a reversal of aspects of Project Realistic Basis.

On 15 July, Skovaji made an article on MicroWikia, joining the micronational community for the first time. Two days later, on 17 July, Ned Greiner messaged Kerry Stapleton on Wikia, offering to open relations between Skovaji and Nedland, which would be the start of a tradition of alliance between the two countries. the country was somewhat inactive between July and September, when the Prime Minister was approached by the Empire of Paravia with an offer
