The House of Abbott-Lorráu is the ruling house of the Kingdom of Eniarku and the other realms. The dynasty was originally known as the House of Slava, though the name was changed to the House of Abbott by the Abbott Proclamation on 5 December 2016 to distance the current kingdom from past failed monarchies. The house took its current name of Abbott-Lorráu upon the coronation of King Aaron – the current head of the house – on 6 March 2017.

The house is an official cadet of both the House of Abbott and House of Lorráu, bridging the current sovereign's paternal and maternal families respectively. All of those in the line of succession to the throne of Eniarku are either Abbotts or Lorráus, or related to one house by marriage; the only de jure members of the House of Abbott-Lorráu proper are the current king and heir (given that they are the children of the marriage that initiated the merging of houses), though the membership of both independent houses are also considered de facto members of the joint house.

Background

Eniarku has only had one monarch in the course of its history, King Aaron, though he and his family have been the members of several different ruling houses to date. The House of Augustus-Alexei was created upon the foundation of the Empire of Eniarku, but quickly went defunct with the establishment of the Eniarkian Confederation months later. Aaron would then go on to establish the House of Slava when he declared the current kingdom on 5 August 2015 in an attempt to solidify the two sides of his family under a single house name, though his decision on the naming of the dynasty came under heavy criticism by members of the immediate maternal side of the royal family and senior members of the Council of State, who claimed that the nomenclature was preferential to the king's paternal side. This pressure – exacerbated by the fact that the king's father had already been stripped of all but his house courtesy title – ultimately led the king to issue a royal proclamation on 5 December 2016, which declared:

My Subjects of the Kingdom of Eniarku and of My Realms and Territories, to all The Lords of Parliament Assembled and all others whatsoever to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting! Know that I, by virtue of the Headship of the Most Royal House of Slava and the Chiefship of all the Royals and Nobles thereof, do hereby Decree and Declare that as from the date of this Proclamation, My House and Family shall be styled and known as the House and Family of Abbott....

—Abbott Proclamation, 5 Dec 2016

Upon the king's coronation on 6 March 2017, he enacted a royal proclamation declaring that the former House of Abbott was to be merged with the House of Lorráu (his maternal family's official house) in a more permanent effort to formally converge the bloodlines of both houses. This decision was met with controversy from the Lorráus, who argued that many of the members of Abbott were guilty of actions unbecoming of royals and should be stripped of their titles. Despite these arguments, sources close to the king have confirmed that his paternal family will retain nearly all of their titles for the immediate future.

Use of surnames

The King of Eniarku officially uses no family name, instead replacing any existing surname with Rex or Regina in recognition of their acession to the throne. The sovereign is also entitled to the use of an ordinal, though (particularly if he or she is the first to use their regnal name), though is not required to do so. Immediate family members of the sovereign — those within "reasonable proximity of blood" — are sometimes styled "[Forename], [Title] of [Place]" (for example, current heir presumptive Evan is titled "Evan, Prince of August"), but may also opt to simply use either Prince or Princess prior to their forename to indicate their status.

Lower members of the houses (specifically those not included in the line of succession) are permitted to amend their names and other titles with any of the following:

  • The king's paternal family: of Abbott
  • The king's maternal family: of Lorráu
  • Occasionally, members of either side: of Abbott-Lorráu

Though by no means obligatory, most members of the house, regardless of standing, do employ one of these courtesies somewhere in their full titles. Generally, women who marry into other families after 6 March 2017 must seek permission of the sovereign if they wish to continue using their house titles.

Membership

The membership of Abbott-Lorráu proper consists of the king and his full-blood sibling, as well as their parents (whose marriage initiated the convergence of the Abbott and Lorráu bloodlines). That is:

House of Abbott

The House of Abbott (members of which are commonly referred to as Abbotts) consists of the paternal family of the king. Its core membership is as follows:

* Member of another house in own right

DIV Divorced

House of Lorráu

The House of Lorráu (members of which are commonly referred to as Lorráus) consists of the maternal family of the king. Its core membership is as follows:

Designation and details

Though Eniarku is officially a unitary state, many different divisions (legally referred to as "realms") exist; these divisions collectively make up the kingdom proper, but have no formal powers of self-governance. Some titles used by the royalty and nobility refer to historical titles that are simply used in pretense, while others do currently exist along with their physical realm. By law, however, all of these realms are headed by the same monarch, King Aaron, and therefore submit to the authority of the Crown, Parliament and His Majesty's Government. Unofficially, the sovereign of Eniarku is sometimes referred to as the Chief of the Eniarkian Realm by virtue of acting as de jure head of state of each the individual polities.

Additionally, many of the titles formally held by the sovereign are granted to other royals and nobles for their own use. For example, though the title of Duke of Eryia is formally held by the king, it is maintained in practice by his aunt, in whom he invested the title and all honours associated with it.
