Tyranny is an autocratic form of government - or, more accurately, a mode of rule - in which an individual or group of individuals have seized power through their own means and have become the absolute political authority of the nation. In the modern sense, tryanny is characterised as an oppressive regime under the inevitable direction of a cruel single leader known as the Tyrant. Due to this modern meaning of the word, few - if any - nations willingly style themselves as Tyrannical states, instead prefering the style of Autocracy or similar. In many instances Tyranny is synonymous with Dictatorship or even Absolute Monarchy.
