The Imperial Principality of the Mergui Islands (also commonly referred to as Mergui, The Mergui Islands and The Imperial Principality) is a island micronation in southeast asia. It is made up of the entire Mergui Archipelago. The IP is part of the United Empire of Great Siam, however it contains it's own parliament and unique currency. The IP is surrounded by the Andaman Sea.
The Imperial Principality is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Its capital city is Myeik. The current monarch—since 10 February 2016—is Thado Andamanius, who is part of the Mahajaya Clan, the ruling house of Andamania. The IP consists of around 800 islands all throughout the Mergui Archipelago. The IP also has territorial claims in the Andaman Sea. Due to this, "Lord of the Andaman, Master of the waves" was added to Andamanius' full title.
The Mergui Archipelago (also Myeik Archipelago or Myeik Kyunzu; Burmese: မြိတ်ကျွန်းစု) is an archipelago in far southern Myanmar (Burma) and is part of the Tanintharyi Region. It consists of more than 800 islands, varying in size from very small to hundreds of square kilometres, all lying in the Andaman Sea off the western shore of the Malay Peninsula near its landward (northern) end where it joins the rest of Indochina.
Myeik was the southernmost part of the Pagan Kingdom between the 11th and 13th centuries. After the Pagan Empire's collapse in 1287, Myeik became part of successive Thai kingdoms from the late 13th century to the middle of 18th century: first the Sukhothai Kingdom and later the Ayutthaya Kingdom. A brief period of Bamar rule interrupted this between 1564-93.
From the 16th century on, the city was an important seaport and trading center with the Europeans, who would land at Myeik (then called Mergui), travel upriver to Tanintharyi (Tenasserim) and then cross the mountains to reach Ayutthaya. The French officer Chevalier de Beauregard was made Governor of the city of Myeik after the Anglo-Siamese war (1687) that resulted in the English being expelled from Siam. De Beauregard was named Governor by Narai, the king of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, replacing an Englishman, Samuel White. The French were then expelled from Myeik following the Siamese revolution of 1688.
The Burmese captured Myeik in 1765 as part of an invasion that would ultimately topple the Ayutthaya kingdom in 1767. In 1826, the Burmese ceded the region to the British after the First Anglo-Burmese War (1824–1826).
In the Pacific Theater of World War II, Imperial Japanese forces used laborers to construct the Mergui Road to aid their retreat after rail line were destroyed by Allied bombings.
Formation of the Imperial Principality
Before 2016, the Mergui Archipelago was part of the newly formed Kingdom of Burma which was part of the Imperial Commonwealth. However, a rebel insurgency broke out resulting in the deaths of 400 people. The Imperial Army was driven out from the islands resulting in the Merguians to lose access to the Imperial Economy. After 2 years of anarchy, Prince Vahith and an army of 5000 Imperial soldiers retook the island and created peace. Vahith's army began the construction of cities and rebuilding the islands.
Due to this, Kanbawza Min granted Andamanius the title of Grand Prince (Thado), with his full title becoming Thado Mahajayan Andmanaius, Prince of Mergui, Lord of the Andaman and Master of the waves.
Population-wise, The Imperial Principality is the smallest country of Asia. Its population is primarily Burmese-speaking, although one third is foreign-born, primarily Thai speakers from Siam, Japanese and Chinese speakers from East Asia and English speakers from the United Kingdom and Australia. Foreign-born people make up one-third of the country's workforce. Merguians have an average life expectancy at birth of 80.31 years, male: 76.86 years, female: 83.77 years (2016 est.). The infant mortality rate is 4.64 deaths per 1,000 live births, according to recent estimates.
The official language of the IP is English, Burmese and Thai. It is one of the only places in the United Empire where English is given an official status, the other being the province of Katha. Due to this, the IP has the highest amount of English speakers in one place within the United Empire with 99.5 percent of the population speaking English. The Anthem of the IP is sung in English, and English is one of the political languages within parliament. It is expected for all Prime Ministers to be able to converse fluently in English.
Burmese is the native language of most of the population, although due to the education system, English can also be considered a first language. Thai is predominately spoken by tourists from the United Empire or residents of Siamese decent. Mokken is the native language of the Mokken people and is considered to be their sacred language. All official Buddhist rituals in the IP are done in Burmese, not English.
According to the 2016 census, 85.8% of total population is Buddhist, of whom 75.9% adhere to the Theravada school, while 8.5% are Mahayana. The largest minority religion is Christianity (5.4% of total population). Protestantism is, by far, the predominant sect that christian Merguians adhere to.
The literacy rate of The Imperial Principality is 100%. In 2016 Programme for International Student Assessment report, coordinated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, ranked Mergui's education as the 10th best in the world.
In The Imperial Principality, there are four main centers for higher education: Imperial University Buddhist Dhamma University in the Imperial Principality Mergui Institute International Academy of Philosophy, Mergui

The IPN operates around the Islands and throughout the Andaman Sea. Acording to the 2016 census, 40 percent of the IPN are native Mokken.
