Wordiness

@Noone: Isn't "Notable micronationalists" in the header of every table a bit wordy? [1] What didn't you like about "Notables"? I'd think context would be sufficient for people to know that said notables are micronationalists without us explictly spelling it out. Tentatively reverted, but of course will yield to the consensus of this discussion. /swέna/ 💬 00:45, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just did so as "Notables" is an informal word. Also, I do not really see your point; I doubt the wordiness matters unless it stretches out the table, which it does not. Template:ZedSig (talk contribs) at 12:25, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It is hardly informal. It came into English via Old French from Latin "notabilis", and is attested by the 14th century1. The origin language and the date indicate that the word came into English via the Norman nobility. It was also used as an official title for members of a select assembly in France prior to the French Revolution2. Dictionary.com gives its modern meaning as "a prominent, distinguished, or important person"2. Accordingly, I don't see how this word could in any sense be considered "informal", even today.
I oppose adding "Person" because it increases wordiness without providing any benefit.

Alright, I agree with your point regarding the status quo. Template:ZedSig (talk contribs) at 23:40, 17 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
