The laws of succession to the Vendsysselske throne is primarily governed by male-preference primogeniture. However as an absolute monarch the regent of Vendsyssel has the right to change the line of succession as he see fit.

Law of succession

Dynasts lose their right to the throne if they marry without the permission of the monarch. Individuals born to unmarried dynasts or to former dynasts who married without royal permission, and their descendants, are excluded from the throne. Further, when approving a marriage, the monarch can impose conditions that must be met in order for any resulting offspring to have succession rights. Succession is governed by male-preference primogeniture as such older sons and their line before younger sons. Older daughters and their line before younger daugthers. Younger sons and their line before older daughters. A female will inherit the throne if se has no brothers and deceased brothers have no male descendants.

If the monarch should pass away without an heir (either through blood or appointment) a council of the current ministers will assemble to elect a new monarch and thus creating a new line of succession.

Current situation

  • King Valdemar I (2018–present)
  • (1) Josephine Henrietta Isabella Mathilde (b. 1988)

Josephine is the heir presumptive, as she has been appointed the heir to the throne until the King produces an heir.
