The Special Administrative region of Carney & Wright Islands

Carney Island Carney Island (73°57′S 121°00′W) is an ice-covered island,[1] 110 km (68 mi) long and about 8,500 km2 (3,300 sq mi) in area, with all but its North coast lying within the Getz Ice Shelf, Antarctica. It is located between Siple Island and Wright Island along the coast of Marie Byrd Land. Carney Island was named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Admiral Robert Carney (1895–1990), Chief of Naval Operations during the organization of Operation Deep Freeze support for the International Geophysical Year of 1957–1958.

Wright Island Wright Island is an ice-covered island 65 km (35 nmi) long, lying at the north edge of Getz Ice Shelf about midway between Carney Island and Martin Peninsula, on the Bakutis Coast, Marie Byrd Land. Delineated from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump in January 1947. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Admiral Jerauld Wright, U.S. Navy, Commander in Chief, Atlantic Fleet, in over-all command of the U.S. Navy's Deep Freeze operations during the IGY, 1957-58.

Kizer Island Kizer Island is an ice-covered island about 30 kilometres (15 nmi) long, lying 20 kilometres (10 nmi) southwest of Cronenwett Island at the west end of the Sulzberger Ice Shelf off Saunders Coast, Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica. It was mapped from surveys by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and from U.S. Navy air photos (1959–65), and was named for Lieutenant T.L. Kizer, U.S. Navy, a helicopter pilot on the USS Glacier (AGB-4) who sighted the island from the air on January 26, 1962.

Siple Island Siple Island is a 110 km (68 mi) long snow-covered island lying east of Wrigley Gulf along the Getz Ice Shelf off Bakutis Coast of Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica. Its centre is located at 73°51′S 125°50′W. Its area is 6,390 km2 (2,467 sq mi) and it is dominated by the dormant shield volcano Mount Siple, rising to 3,110 m (10,203 ft) – making this the 15th ranking island in the world by maximum elevation. Island and mountain were named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in 1967 in honour of the Antarctic explorer Paul A. Siple (1909–1968), member of Admiral Byrd's expeditions.

Maher Island Maher Island is a small horseshoe-shaped island which has numerous areas of exposed rock, lying 13 kilometres (7 nmi) north of the northwest end of Siple Island, off the coast of Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica. It was discovered and photographed from aircraft of U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Commander Eugene Maher, U.S. Navy, Commanding Officer of USS Glacier during Operation Deep Freeze, 1955–56. The island is one of three considered closest to the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility, also known as 'Point Nemo'.

Pranke Island Pranke Island (73°14′S 124°55′WCoordinates: 73°14′S 124°55′W) is a small ice-covered island lying close to Siple Island in the west extremity of Russell Bay, off the coast of Marie Byrd Land. Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1959-65. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for James B. Pranke, aurora researcher at Byrd Station in 1965.
